What am I doing wrong?!
It's a question I've asked myself too many time, soon before, or after getting sacked once again... I started a save with Monaco, which I heard is supposed to be easy, but I find myself in a deep slump once again.... I thought I put together a pretty good team and even though I know it's hard with all the new faces that have to get used to everything, I still don't understand how I can be doing so bad with a team like this!
So again, what am I doing wrong?
Thanks for your help (here are a couple of screeenshots)

who did you buy thing with monaco is you need to sort the def out i think thats what is holding monaco back get that sorted and you could be onto a winner

You should try artisans 4-2-2-2 or maybe jassar's impossible. I know you'd like to use a formation of your own making but first you need to stable your position..

As a general rule of thumb:

2/3/4 Attack duties
2/3 Support duties
3/4 Defend duties (Inc. GK)

Too many support (like yours) and you'll just be passing it about and taking long shots.

For example, I have
ST-ATT
AM- SUP-ATT-SUP
DM- SUP-DEF
DRLC- ATT-DEF-DEF-ATT
GK- DEF

4 ATT, 3 SUP, 4 DEF (i.e a balanced side!)

-----------------

With your BBM's bombing on, and your AP and DLF essentially playing in the same space you pretty much have a 1 man midfield!
With Falcao just as a poacher nobody is holding the ball high up the pitch.

Try
Falcao AF [att] Berba DLF
Moutinho, Schneid and Rodri (all as CM) in a DLP/BBM -BWM [def]-AP [att] trio
with Toulalan as a Regista play out from the back and provide extra cover for your CB's.
Wingbacks on [sup/att] depending on their strengths and PPM's.

And since you are Monaco and expected to do well, I suggest control mentality.

Remember tactical changes take about 10 games to have a really good effect and that constant tinkering will unsettle your side.

I seem to always loose quite alot of games with any team in the Ligue 1, it has being like that since last FM aswell, no matter what tactic i try.

Far, far too congested in the middle of the park.

DLF will drop deep into AP space and the AP is static as well so both will hinder eachother, use one or the other. Add that to two BTB midfielders pushing into the space that is being used up by the AP/DLF. Change at least one of them or tell one of the midfielders (preferably the one behind DLF) to run wide with ball.

No width either. Any player on Automatic will have their duty dictated by your mentality which yours is standard so they'll just be on support so they will never get forward enough to compensate the lack of wingers. So basically you have one player on attacking duty which isn't enough, no movement with work ball into box is a bad idea.

Now to sort that out, put Toulalan into the DM position to cover the full backs and put your most capable (attacking) full back on an attacking duty and keep the other one on support and add some PI's so he gets forward a little bit more. If the lack of width is still a problem, DM to HB and both FB on attack.

Now the 4-2-3-1.

I can't see your 2nd CM but I guess it is either a BWM (which I advise heavily against) or it is another **** support role which is something that is really holding your tactic back.

I don't know why you have so many support roles, I have 3 at most with the rest balanced out between attack and defend. You have 6 (assuming 2nd cm is a support role) in both tactics. I am not sure what you're expecting with so many support roles so if you could elaborate that'd be great.

My advice for this formation is similar to the 4-3-1-2. You have little width. A rule for me is if I ever play a winger on support then the FB behind MUST attack otherwise you have no movement coming down that side and you will be easily marked out of it. So again, most capable (attacking) full back on attack with the winger ahead on support and the other full back on support while the winger ahead is on attack. Then to cover the attacking full back put your DLP-D on the same side as the attacking full back.

Plus are your defence so familiar with eachother to play the offside trap? I see you bought Rojo this season so they probably are not so I'd remove that. Also you want to play out from the back yet you have Mirin lumping it forward? Coupled in with the play out of defence shout ALSO along with Rojo a BPD. It all contradicts eachtother I am afraid. Get rid of the ones that do not suit your envisioned style.

You have a great team there, and one could argue it's even better when set against the competition in your domestic league.

That said, it's clear from your tactic that you are playing far too tentatively. You have several support duties there, and combined with the standard starting strategy it's all a bit too cautious for the level of team you have. That is probably why you are struggling to break teams down and win games as 1) The AI is sitting back against you in fear of the stronger team (you) bombarding them with attacks, meanwhile your sitting in midfield being patient with your passing and not forcing the issue. 2) You are sitting back not going for goals and the AI is countering you and attacking instead.

Don't be afraid to up your starting strategy to attack or control, and at the very least add a few more attacking duties to your line-up.

Your tactics need work. Although you have great players, they need to be told what to do on the pitch. Sometimes, letting them decide what to do can lead to chaos. Pick a tactical style as shown here Tactical Styles | Football Manager 2014 Guide for both defending and attacking. For example, you can pick aggressive defending and passing through defence tactical styles. Player instructions you can leave aside for the time being, and set pieces aswell. Player roles and duties need to be balanced. Never have more attack then defend duties, or it will make your tactic inbalanced. Also, if you have a player with attack duty, try to have some other player close to him with a support or defend duty to close down the empty space he leaves. And by the way, if you are bent on using the offside trap, your defence line needs to be higher, you need a sweeper keeper, and both cd must have same role and defend duty...

That is not really true unless you are talking about a stupid ratio of attack duties and defend duties e.g 5 attack duties, 2 defend but say something like 4 attack duties and 3 defend duties can work fine while having a very well balanced side.
