Lower League Management Tips

Hi All, playing my first save in the lower leagues and wondered if anyone could post some tips on here on the simple things I should look at. I have heard I need to look at work rate of players and keep things simple. Is this true? Any tips no matter how simple would be appreciated?

I once did a guide on this for FM12, and I am thinking of doing another one this year. I haven't yet had the chance to do a lower league save, so I will need to play one before releasing a guide.
