MANCHESTER UNITED AT A GLANCE

View attachment 78741

Manchester United Football Club is a professional football club based in Old Trafford, Greater Manchester, England, that competes in the Premier League, the top flight of English football. Nicknamed "The Red Devils", the club was founded as Newton Heath LYR Football Club in 1878, changed its name to Manchester United in 1902 and moved to its current stadium, Old Trafford, in 1910.

Manchester United have won a record 20 League titles, 12 FA Cups, 5 League Cups and a record 21 FA Community Shields. The club has also won three UEFA Champions Leagues, one UEFA Europa League, one UEFA Cup Winners' Cup, one UEFA Super Cup, one Intercontinental Cup and one FIFA Club World Cup. In 1998–99, the club became the first in the history of English football to achieve the treble of the Premier League, the FA Cup and the UEFA Champions League. In 2016–17, by winning the UEFA Europa League, they became one of five clubs to have won all three main UEFA club competitions. In addition, they became the only professional English club to have won every ongoing honour available to the first team that is organised by a national or international governing body.

The 1958 Munich air disaster claimed the lives of eight players. In 1968, under the management of Matt Busby, Manchester United became the first English football club to win the European Cup. Alex Ferguson won 38 trophies as manager, including 13 Premier League titles, 5 FA Cups and 2 UEFA Champions Leagues, between 1986 and 2013, when he announced his retirement. José Mourinho is the club's current manager, having been appointed on 27 May 2016.

Manchester United was the highest-earning football club in the world for 2015–16, with an annual revenue of €689 million, and the world's most valuable football club in 2017, valued at £2.86 billion. As of June 2015, it is the world's most valuable football brand, estimated to be worth $1.2 billion. After being floated on the London Stock Exchange in 1991, the club was purchased by Malcolm Glazer in May 2005 in a deal valuing the club at almost £800 million, after which the company was taken private again, before going public once more in August 2012, when they made an initial public offering on the New York Stock Exchange. Manchester United is one of the most widely supported football clubs in the world, and has its strongest rivalries with Liverpool, Manchester City and Leeds United.

THE THEATRE OF DREAMS - OLD TRAFFORD

View attachment 78740

Old Trafford is a football stadium in Old Trafford, Greater Manchester, England, and the home of Manchester United.

Address: Sir Matt Busby Way, Stretford, Manchester M16 0RA
Capacity: 75,643
Broke ground: 1909
Record attendance: 76,962 (Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Grimsby Town, 25 March 1939)
Owner: Manchester United F.C.
Did you know: Old Trafford was nicknamed the "Theatre of Dreams" by former United star, Sir Bobby Charlton.

RECENT HISTORY

On 8 May 2013, Ferguson announced that he was to retire as manager at the end of the football season, but would remain at the club as a director and club ambassador. The club announced the next day that Everton manager David Moyes would replace him from 1 July, having signed a six-year contract.

Ryan Giggs took over as interim player-manager 10 months later, on 22 April 2014, when Moyes was sacked after a poor season in which the club failed to defend their Premier League title and failed to qualify for the UEFA Champions League for the first time since 1995–96. They also failed to qualify for the Europa League, meaning that it was the first time Manchester United hadn't qualified for a European competition since 1990.

On 19 May 2014, it was confirmed that Louis van Gaal would replace Moyes as Manchester United manager on a three-year deal, with Giggs as his assistant. Malcolm Glazer, the patriarch of the Glazer family that owns the club, died on 28 May 2014.

Although Van Gaal's first season saw United once again qualify for the Champions League through a fourth-place finish in the Premier League, his second season saw United go out of the same tournament in the group stage. United also fell behind in the title race for the third consecutive season, finishing in 5th place, in spite of several expensive signings during Van Gaal's tenure. However, that same season, Manchester United won the FA Cup for a 12th time. Despite this victory, Van Gaal was sacked as manager just two days later, with José Mourinho appointed in his place on 27 May, signing a three-year contract.

That season, United finished in sixth place while winning the EFL Cup for the fifth time and the Europa League for the first time, as well as the FA Community Shield for a record 21st time. Wayne Rooney scored his 250th goal with United, surpassing Sir Bobby Charlton as United's all-time top scorer, before leaving the club at the end of the season to return to Everton.

MANCHESTER UNITED - TACTICS

Jose Mourinho has stated that he wants his team to be playing an attacking brand of football this season. The system will be a 4-2-3-1 formation which should benefit The Red Devils and the players they have at their disposal. The club will want to be playing the way they did historically under the guidance of Sir Alex Ferguson.

The wiley Scot made his team play a fluid attacking style, something which has been missing since his departure a few years ago. United of yesteryear always looked strong at the back and lethal going forward. It will up to Mourinho and his backroom team to get United firing on all cylinders and playing the way that used to excite Man Utd fans all those years ago!

GOALKEEPERS

View attachment 78725

Manchester United are lucky enough to have one of the best goalkeepers in the world at their disposal. David De Gea is one of the first names on the team sheet and over the years has earned Manchester United points on his own with the fantastic displays he has put in. Sergio Romero is Transfer Listed but if he stays will be a good backup keeper to the Spaniard.

CENTRAL DEFENDERS

View attachment 78724

The Red Devils have purchased Victor Lindelof this summer and he joins a plethora of central defenders at the club. United have looked weak in this department for some time and have never really replaced Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic who had a fantastic partnership during their time at the club. Eric Baily has looked promising since joining United last summer but he will need some fine tuning before being considered one of United best centre backs. Marcos Rojo is injured and should be back sometime in November.

FULLBACKS

View attachment 78723

The Fullback position is another area where Manchester United have looked weak in recent times. Luke Shaw has never really developed into the player that United fans thought he would since joining from Southampton. Ashley Young and Antonio Valencia have been converted from the winger role and are perhaps are too attacking for the role, although Valencia has improved and is United's automatic right back for now. Darmian joined a few years ago but is Transfer Listed after being made surplus to requirements at the club.

MIDFIELDERS

View attachment 78722

Paul Pogba's return to United really seemed to ease the fans worries about this position. United seemed to lack creative talent in the middle of the park and with the Frenchman and this years acquisition of Nemanja Matic from Chelsea, The Red Devils now have a creative force in their central midfield ranks. The ageing Michael Carrick has always been a fine player but with the years catching up on him it has been speculated that this will be his last season in a Manchester United shirt.

WINGERS

View attachment 78721

Possibly United's strongest position on the pitch. With the likes of Juan Mata, Marcus Rashford, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Anthony Martial available in this position The Red Devils would be stupid not to utilise the talent, pace and creative influence they have coming in from the winger position. Any striker in the league would be happy to have any of these players supplying them with crosses and passes from the flanks purely due to the amount of clear cut chances that should be on offer from them.

STRIKERS

View attachment 78720

Manchester United's Marquee signing so far this season sees Romely Lukaku lead the line up front for the Red Devils. The strong, powerful and talented Belgian will be expected to lead the line and become Manchester United's main goal scoring threat. With his towering height and ability to out muscle defenders Lukaku should be able to get a decent goal return this campaign, especially with the talent around him. United also have Zlatan Ibrahimovic at their disposal (not yet - injured until Dec/Jan), the talismanic and legendary striker who some thought was on his way out of the club states that he has "unfinished business" at United and wants one more year in Manchester before deciding whether to retire or move on to pastures anew.

Manchester United have signed AS Roma's Brazilian midfield Gerson on a deal reported to be around £12,000,000. The young starlet has been touted as a future Brazilian international and has bags of potential and talent in abundance. Roma were keen to hold onto their prodigious youngster but the bright lights of Manchester were just to hard to turn down for Gerson who will be looking to make his mark at Mnchester United.

It's believed that Gerson will have a preliminary role at United and will be on wages of roughly £35,000 per week. Gerson will be the newest Brazilian at the club and he will be hoping to have a more successful spell than any of the Brazilians before him who all suffered the ignominous fate of failing at United.

Mourino is looking at 1 maybe 2 more signings before he is completely happy with his squad but with the team due to fly out to the United States it will be interesting to see if any new signings make it onto the tour over the Atlantic ocean.

MANCHESTER UNITED USA TOUR PREVIEW

Jose Mourinho has opted to continue Man Utd's traditional Pre-Season tour and take his team to The United States. This is both a fantastic way to gain fitness but it is also a money making opportunity. With The Premier Leagues stock not as high profile in the states it gives United a chance to promote their brand the other side of the pond.

Mourinho will however being using this as an opportunity to test out tactics, systems, to establish fitness and just who he feels can become regular started for him as we move forward to the 2017/18 Premier League Season.

View attachment 78610

So whilst out in the States Manchester United will travel to Atlanta to take on Atlanta FC. The team will then travel to Pittsburgh where they will clash with the Pittsburgh Hounds. After this match the club will travel to Texas where they will go up against Houston Dynamo. The tour ends with the pre-season squad travelling to Florida where they will finish up their tour against Orlando City.

View attachment 78608

Mourinho will be expecting his team to win all 4 of these pre-season games although the main focus is to ensure the players fitness levels are at the optimum and to see what type of system Mourinho wants his side playing this year. New signing Gerson will undoubtedly be involved in some capacity as Mourinho has opted to take a few of his youngsters on this tour.

View attachment 78607

This is a wonderful breakout opportunity for Manchester United to network around the United States. Any opportunity to ensure the club is promoted is taken with the club and Executive Vice-Chairman Ed Woodward will travel with the team to tie up any business that the club manages to make out there. The USA Tour will be followed by 1 more friendly when the club returns from the states. The match will be played at Old Trafford and will be against Celtic. This match will be used to fine tune the squad before the opening game of the Premier League and Manchester United's match against Real Madrid in the European Supercup.

Signed him for a similar price in my 1 season test save. Was fantastic rotation with Matic.

I would also buy him. In my opinion your tactic maybe face some problems in defending. If you want my advice. Buy him and kiss fellaini goodbye ha ha !

Jose Mourinho has secured one of the worlds best defensive midfielders here in a sum that will have pleased the Man Utd hierarchy. In what at first looks like a hefty price tag If you compare it to how the Transfer Market is these days this piece of business could soon be seen as a real coup if Casemiro becomes pure United gold!

The defensive midfielder who joins from Real Madrid will be seen as a fantastic signing by the United fans who have been hoping the club sign someone who possess' the ability to add strength and protection in front of the United back four. The Brazilian who hasn't made an international appearance yet has the world at his feet but has insisted he needs playing time to match the expectations placed on him.

Manchester United have signed Aaron a young Spanish left back who will provide cover for Luke Shaw when the Englishman is back from his injury. With Shaw quite injury prone and his future at the club under scrutiny this season. It wouldn't be a far cry to state that Mourinho could be lining up Aaron as his future left back going forward.

United need some depth in this position. It is all but certain that Darmian will be sold this season and with Blind's future uncertain too United could find themselves lacking in the position without the signing from Espanyol. Aaron will play in the US and it will give the fans the chance to see why Espanyol and Spain see him in such high regard.
