US PRE-SEASON TOUR COMPLETED
(AND HOME MATCH AGAINST CELTIC)

So Pre-Season kicked off in style from the other side of the Atlantic ocean. Jose Mourinho fielded experimental sides and his team came away with comfortable wins in the majority of all of their games in The States and at home against Celtic. The squad who have been working on their fitness, match sharpness and their tactical prowess looked impressive during Pre-Season. The squad have have looked fantastic during their time in The States and the fans will be hoping that their form continues into their upcoming European Supercup Match against Real Madrid.

View attachment 78385

As you can see many of the games became exhibition matches for The Red Devils who as expected came away with a large goal defecit in most of the games they played. Out of all the Pre-Season matches it was Orlando City who pushed United the hardest. The system implemented by Mourinho looks to be working and there was some superb link up play between the players. No players picked up any injuries for United and it is only Luke Shaw, Marcos Rojo and Zlatan Ibahimovic who remain injured for The Red Devils.

PRE-SEASON OUTSTANDING PERFORMERS

View attachment 78383View attachment 78381View attachment 78380

The attacking play was seamless for Man Utd and Romelu Lukaku, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Anthony Martial all looked in tune with one another. Between the three players they picked up 16 goals out of Manchester United's 23 goals throughout Pre-Season. If they can keep linking up like they have done throughout the Pre-Season then Manchester United should have an extremely positive 2017/18 season.

Lukaku the powerhouse seemed to play well with both Martial and Mkhitaryan cutting inside and laying balls off for each other, The whole Pre-Season squad performed well but it was these 3 attacking players who particuarly impressed the fans and pundits whilst out in America.

THE EUROPEAN SUPERCUP

View attachment 78273

Real Madrid and Manchester United travel to Macedonia to face each other in this years season opener The Uefa Super Cup! Both clubs earned the right to be in this years match, Real Madrid; by winning the Champions League and Manchester United by winning the Europa League. Although this match historically has been used as a glorified friendly it is widely speculated that Zidane and Mourinho will be vying for the win so the victor can claim the bragging rights going forward into the season.

There isn't a huge amount of respect between both managers and this match should surely stoke the fires between both men. Zidane on paper probably has the better team but with Ronaldo injured Manchester United have a decent chance to claim the win and the scalp of Real Madrid so early on in their season's campaign

THE MANAGERS

View attachment 78272View attachment 78271

  • [*=center]Zidane is currently the manager of Real Madrid, taking over the position in January 2016. In his first two seasons as manager, Zidane won the UEFA Champions League title twice, a La Liga title, a Supercopa de España title, the UEFA Super Cup twice and a FIFA Club World Cup. His success saw him named Best FIFA Men's Coach in 2017.

  • [*=center]Mourinho is the Man Utd manager having signed a three-year contract with Manchester United in May 2016, with an option to stay at the club until at least 2020. On 7 August 2016, Mourinho won his first trophy, the FA Community Shield, beating reigning Premier League champions Leicester City 2–1. Manchester United won 3–2 over Southampton in the EFL Cup Final at Wembley. With the victory, he becomes the first United manager to win a major trophy in his debut season. On 24 May 2017, Manchester United won the Europa League courtesy of a 2–0 win over AFC Ajax. This was Mourinho's second major trophy of his first season as Manchester United manager. It also maintained his 100% record of winning every major European Cup final as a manager.

THE TACTICS

View attachment 78267

Zidane has opted for a 4-1-2-2-1 formation and this is how his team will shape up. With No Ronaldo in the team It is Isco who has been bought in to replace Portuguese. With the Spanish midfielder enjoying his best ever Madrid spell last season he will be just as dangerous as the ageing Ronaldo. It is a strong Los Blancos side and Manchester United will have to be at their best to beat them. Gareth Bale will be looking to put in a classy performance as well to show Zidance, the Real fans and his critics just what he can do on the pitch after spending so much time off it last season.

The Red Devils and Mourinho line up with a 4-2-3-1 formation. The fans will be hoping that the clubs Pre-Season performances carry over into this match with United looking tasty at the moment this could well and truely be an enterating match. Lukaku will be hoping to bag a goal on his debut and Casemiro could make his United debut against the team he has just left.

THE MATCH - QUICK GLANCE

THE MATCH IN DETAIL

View attachment 78256

On a hot summer's evening at the Phillip II arena in Skopje, Macedonia, Man Utd had the honour of lifting the Uefa Super Cup after beating Real Madrid 2-1. It wasn't all sunshine and rainbows though for United as they lost Lukaku to injury via a concussion after a clattering from Sergio Ramos in the 44th minute. Chris Smalling was then sent off for a late tackle in the 49th minute leaving Man Utd under immense pressure!

The teams were level in terms of numbers on the pitch come the 50th minute as Marcos Llorente earned himself an early shower for a bad tackle on Juan Mata. The Red Devils however spent the majority of the match on the back foot and went 1-0 down in the 70th minute due to a placed shot from close range from Isco who played brilliantly throughout the whole game.

Flamboyant attacking midfielder Juan Mata equalised for United in the 84th minute offering the club, Mourinho and the fans a slight slither of hope going into the dying embers of the match. That hope turned to pure euphoria 2 minutes later when Armenia captain Henrikh Mkhitaryan scored United's second and the wining goal of the match with a placed shot low into Keylor Navas' goal. The United fans erupted into song and watched as The Red Devils closed out the game against a dejected Real Madrid team.

INJURY UPDATE

View attachment 78269

The two long term injuries don't worry me and with Lukaku out for a couple of weeks we should be ok for now. Rashford will have to start the first games of the seasons. Luke Shaw is back soon... I hope.... but it will be good to have him back as he will rotate at left back with new signing Aaron.

COMING UP... 2 MORE SIGNINGS...

Manchester United have made yet another signing this Transfer Window and it is the third Brazilian they have bought into the club. Arthur joins from Gremio. It's believed that Arthur will be used sparingly and may well be a signing for the future. He will get game time but it may take him a while to solidify a first team spot, Arthur will be hoping to get Cup match game time but will realistically be hoping to nab a sport in the first team by the end of this seasons campaign.

Mourinho has stated that he has been impressed with the youngster and with some tutoring, learning the language and getting used to life in England he fully expects the youngster to become one of the Premier League's Brazilian success stories.

THE START OF THE PREMIER LEAGUE SEASON

View attachment 77785

You yawn, wipe your eyes and take stock of the morning presenting itself to you. A daze blinds you as you work out another day is upon you. You gaze out of the window as the network of electrons in your head are misfiring and still trying to piece together just what time it is and what day it is...

In an instant...BANG....! An explosion of euphoria and adrenaline pulsate through your body and before you've even realised it your mind has twigged it's the first day of the domestic football season! You've waited since the latter stages of May for this and with barely a sniff of football throughout the summer months, mid August is finally here and with it brings the curtain opener of the Premier League with it...

Millions of people all waking up in the same fashion, some being woken by their alarms with Talk Sport blaring at them. Some already sat eating breakfast watching Sky Sports News. Many are already setting their Sat Navs getting ready for their teams away day travels. Others are on the way to the train station with dad, son, daughter or whoever loves watching football with them.

There really is no other feeling like the first day of the football season... To pull on your teams jersey, to pull it over your head and pull it down over you has such a satisfying sentiment to it. You represent your team, you feel connected to your team, you are part of your team! The walk into the stadium is refreshing, you hear the fans chanting, discussions amongst other supporters, speculation about the outcome of the match. Kids with mum or dad grabbing some pre-match snacks, the next generation of fans perhaps getting their first taste of a football season.

The sounds, the smells, the taste in the air all add to the magic of the Premier League... Come rain or shine the fans are what make this league so special. The banging on the back of the Stadium boards up in the higher tiers of the stadium. The hot dogs cooking in the stalls beneath the stands. You just can't compare this to any other league let alone another sport. We breathe football, we live football we ARE football...

This is the Premier League and this is our league!

View attachment 77784

20 Teams all vying to hit their season goals. Manchester United the leagues most successful ever team will be aiming to reclaim the prize they haven't managed to win in over 3 years. Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool their main title contenders aiming to stop them and to oust each other to the top of the table come the end of the campaign.

Huddersfield, Brighton and Newcastle will be aiming to stay in the league having gained promotion to the Premier League from the Championship last season. Everton, Southampton, Leicester (the shock Premier League winners 2 seasons ago) will potentially be vying for a Europa League spot. All these different targets, goals and ambitions again add to how exciting the Premier League is...

To each and every team out there good luck!

MOTD - Antonio ValenciaView attachment 77777

Manchester United have got off to a winning start this season and it comes at the expense of a Swansea City loss. The Welsh team never really turned up today and the way United played they may well wish they hadn't! Anthony Martial had The Red Devils first goal of the season in the back of the Swansea net just 2 minutes into the game. The Frenchman weaved his way into The Swans penalty box before unleashing a swerving ball past Lukas Fabianski.

United remained in control throughout the game and Nemanja Matic scored on his debut for the club with a fizzing shot from outside of the penalty box. Mourinho looked impressed at the sideline and will have no doubt been pleased by the way his team played during the game. The match ended 3-0 after Henrikh Mkhitaryan slotted home midway through the second half, his shot cannoning in off the inside of the post. All in all a good opening day for Manchester United.

MOTD - Marcus RashfordView attachment 77777

The John Smith stadium was treated to a 5 goal thriller in this match. Manchester United looked shaky at times but Huddersfield also looked good throughout the match. The newly promoted team played with a never die attitude and drew themselves back into the game before heartbreak in the 93rd minute which saw United nick all 3 points when a draw was the fairer result.

Marcus Rashford opened the scoring in the 31st minute after finding himself with space in the Huddersfield penalty box after a low cross from Luke Shaw who was making a return from injury. Juan Mata made it 2-0 to the Red Devils before Kasey Palmer and Michael Hefele drew the match even again. After all the hard work Huddersfield had done getting back into the match it was devastation as a poor back pass by Collin Quaner allowed Rashford to storm past Jonas Lossi in the Huddersfield goal and nick the win and the 3 points for Man Utd.

MOTD - Juan MataView attachment 77777

Another positive display from Manchester United who impressed the Old Trafford faithful. The United fans looked buoyed by such attacking and free flowing football and will be pleased with Mourinho utilising this style of play. Burnley were stubborn to break down however and Sean Dyche would have been champing at the bit for a win after comments in the media became personal between Mourinho and Dyche. The Red Devils manager praised Dyche for playing with an English core set of players but the Burnley manager took it the wrong way and assumed Mourinho was playing mind games with him.

Whether those comments distracted Dyche and the Burnely team who knows!? Manchester United did grab the win and the much needed 3 points though with Marcus Rashford scoring again (filling in for the injured Lukaku who came on as a sub) and Eric Bailly scoring a header from a United corner.

THE PREMIER LEAGUE TABLE AFTER MATCHDAY 3

View attachment 77768

Man Utd, Man City and Tottenham are the only 3 teams to have won their opening 3 fixtures, subsequently putting all of them joint top on 9 points. They are followed by Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea who make up the list of the usual suspects sitting pretty at the top of the table. Newly promoted Newcastle have been abysmal so far this season, they haven't picked up a single point and will need to step it up a gear soon or risk being in a relegation scrap.

The table doesn't look too dissimilar to how it could end up at the end of the campaign there are no real shocks as to teams being in relatively strange positions but we are still only 3 matchdays into the Premier League season.

CARABAO CUP THIRD ROUND DRAW & CHAMPIONS LEAGUE GROUP STAGE DRAW.

Manchester United like alot of the bigger teams in the Premier League have now entered into the Carabao Cup. They enter into the Third Round or Round three as it can sometimes be called. United are the current Carabao Cup holders as they won it last year when it was known as the EFL Cup. The Red Devils were the first team drawn out in this round and they will play Wolves at home.

Mourinho will be happy with a home tie and Man Utd will be heavy favourites to advance through to the next round. The lowest ranked team left in the competition Mansfield have been rewarded for their win in the previous round with an away tie at the Premier League Champions, Chelsea! Some of the other highlight fixtures include Watford hosting Spurs, Arsenal at home to Huddersfield and Newcastle taking on Manchester City.

With United now prepared to face Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Carabao Cup, attention has turned to the Uefa Champions League Group Stage Draw. United will be in pot 2 and it is feasible that they could take on one of the European super powers. Real Madrid, Juventus, Bayern and PSG are all teams that The Red Devils will want to avoid.

Mourinho will guide his team through this years competition as they won the Europa League last season. This ensured that United would get a safe passage to this years Champions League Group Stage.

View attachment 77710

So United couldn't avoid one of the European big boys and have been paired in Group E with Bayern. Mourinho will have felt a shudder as he saw his teams name drawn out into Group E with Bayern already selected for the group. Luckily United have been drawn against FC Basel and Sporting CP, two teams United should be beating home and away. It certainly won't be a straightforward group though and it will be an exciting group to watch as we see how the results unfold.

The other groups are all fairly balanced and all of the English teams have a good chance of progressing through to the Kockout Round.

Liverpool fans if you can't find your team it's because this happened...

The day that football clubs who haven't quite managed to get hold of their Transfer Targets start to panic.... (Cough, Cough) Arsenal! With only 24 hours to get business wrapped up will clubs be in panic mode or have most of them completed their Transfer buiness for the 2017/18 Transfer Window?

View attachment 77693

Manchester United were certainly active throughout the Transfer Window and with the likes of Casemiro, Lukaku, Matic & Gerson to name but a few, Mourinho is really ramping up his squad to challenge for honours this year! Manchester City signed Ivan Perisic who himself was a United target not so long ago. Chelsea signed Alvaro Morata from Real Madrid. Manchester City signed nearly every decent fullback in Europe. Arsenal signed Alexandre Lacazette. Everton signed Wayne Rooney, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Jordan Pickford amongst others.

View attachment 77692

With the squads now unable to buy until January we will see just who has bough a bargain and who has bought a flop this summer. Sometimes the less known signings become the next big thing while the superstars bought become lost in the league a pitter away.

MANCHESTER UNITED TRANSFERS IN'S/OUT'S

Man Utd spent a fair bit of money this summer and heres hoping it doesn't backfire on them. Some super talent has come through the doors as earlier stated with the likes of Lukaku, Matic and Lindelof. Other signings such as Aaron and Arthur could become big hits if given the right amount of game time but both will have to be patient for that. United did sign one more player and it was a less low key signing as Vitinho joins the club from Cruzeiro for £3,000,000.

View attachment 77690

The Red Devils also made a fair bit of cash this summer aswell with the likes of Daley Blind, Matteo Darmian, Marouane Fellaini and Sergio Romero all leaving for substantial amounts of money. Mourinho had made it clear to these players that they were not in his first team plans and it was mutually decided that the players look to further their careers elsewhere.

Ashely Young has a small slither of hope at resurrecting his Man Utd career as he only leaves on loan to help newly promoted Brighton.Axel Tuanzebe also leaves on loan to gain more first team experience something Mourinho was keen the player got this year.

View attachment 77689

Seem like good signings, is it a coincidence they're all (if I'm not mistaken) Brazilian? ;)
EDIT: other than Aaron ofc

I don't know how you do the graphics but they are impressive, especially the transfer deadline day one that was cool

AUGUST 2017 PREMIER LEAGUE AWARDS

MANAGER OF THE MONTH

Pep Guardiola is the Manager Of The Month this month and it was a close call between Manchester United and Manchester City manager who received this award. The City boss pipped the award as his style of play is perhaps just slightly slicker at this moment in this.

View attachment 77596

PLAYER OF THE MONTH

A surprise Player Of The Month in Andros Townsend but he has been in sublime form for Crystal Palace this season scoring 3 goals in 3 games and playing with real purpose and commitment at present.

View attachment 77589

YOUNG PLAYER OF THE MONTH

Marcus Rashford wins the Young Player Of The Month award this August! He has had to deputise for the injured Romely Lukaku and has done so in style scoring 3 goals in as many games. Gabriel Jesus was the runner up and it seems both Manchester teams have a jewel in the making with these two players.
