Managing Portsmouth, any tips regarding players I should sign/formations ect?

I just started managing Portsmouth and I underestimated the challenge and need some tips, I have the transfer embargo and I assume that gets lifted in due course. Until then I'm left with a thread bare squad and players who's contracts are more or less monthly. I love a challenge but I may need help :). All the best.
