manually downloaded patch working with steam

this is the 1st time I've installed FM2011 using Steam so i wasn't aware that I should not manually patch my game. I've since read that because of Steam automatically patching FM that this will corrupt the game. However I've had it patched since 5th nov and it seems to be working fine. played all day and no problems. should steam have automatically patched my game by now? should I just get rid of the patch? what would be the best way going about that if i should? thanks

If its working fine, you haven't installed the manual patch correctly, so i shouldn't worry about it.

If you downloaded the game after about 6pm on Thursday night, the game would have been installed with the patch in place, if you preloaded the game, it patched itself at some point on Thursday.
