Guide to football manager has proved a very very helpful site for advice.
But id like to see what others do and look for in their match preparations.
Trying to find that successful plug n play tactic has proved more and more difficult in recent football manager games.

Step by step, what do you look at when tweaking your tactics on a match by match basis?

just minor change with my DM when facing teams using two strikers, instead of DM I change him to HB. Other minor changes depend how the match flows. There isn't a magic stick to solve all problems.

I wrote a Manager Story to specifically show how I prepare for matches against differing opposition. Take a look - the link at the bottom will land you on pg3 of my thread; scroll down until you see the Arsenal badge and start from there. You'll only need to read about a few matches to get the gist of it.

First though, take a look at the final page. It was specifically a diary of a season, but my save is ongoing so I go back and update this page every time I complete a season. Other FMers have been more successful in their saves, even with more modest teams than Southampton, but I think this shows that I know what I'm talking about:
