Basically I play a high 4231 (rigid) for the 2 midfielders (set up just before the half way line, not deep) CM (d) and box to box. Yet I always get countered and my CM (d) always wonders forward Barry. I want him to sit and hold. Any ideas ???

Surely CM (d) would sit though? And he has no ppms which would effect what i want him to do ?? I don't mean hold. He just always goes forward leaving a massive gap in the middle

CM(d) if you read the instruction plays a supportive role to those in front of him, this basically means if there is space he will move into it to offer a passing option.
