Mike Bassett: 4-4-F******-2 with the mighty FC United.

So Mike Bassett has returned to management and this time taking his talent to Manchester. Everyone knows that Bassett is master at lower league level so taking FC United from Vanarama national league north to the premier league should be no problem, and of course, they will play 4-4-2.

Welcome to Manchester

For too long football in Manchester have been dominated by Manchester United and most recently Manchester City. Around 530k people live in Manchester making it the 5th largest city of UK and the Greater Manchester is the second largest urban area with the populace of 2.55 million people. Mike Bassett goal is simple: become the big team in Manchester so move along City and United.

Broadhurst Park

Built in 2015, Broadhurst Park has the capacity of 4,400 but only 696 seated. This stadium will become our fortress.

Pre-season

Got the pre-season out of the way, with some decent results. The only tactic used was 4-4-2, I will show it in more depth when the season starts. I will also introduce key players, arrivals, and departures.

Season prediction, our Roy Keane and more key players

Season prediction

It was clear from the beginning that this season would be hard for Mike Bassett, but he saw a lot of upside in this situation. FC United was predicted to finish in 21st, and the board expectations were to fight bravely against relegation.

Key players
Mike Bassett was glad to learn that his goalkeeper was considered one of the best player at the club, as he knows it essential for success at any level to have a good goalkeeper. So I present you the 24-year-old Lloyd Allinson, who is according to coach a report leading player for most Vanarama North sides, he will be busy this season.

Next player has 2 caps for Ireland and 4 U21 caps. Plays left back but can also play as a central defender. Grew up at Aston Villa, had loan spells at Leeds, Southampton, and Swansea but now finds himself managed by one of England greatest managers. I present you, Stephen O´Halloran.

Mike Bassett has found himself his Roy Keane. 29 year old. Aggression 16, bravery 14, determination 14, leadership 11, teamwork 11, work rate 14, tackling 11, strength 13 and dives into tackles. Harry Winter will be key player and fan favorite. And like Roy, he is our captain.

Arrivals and departures

The board was not going to allow Mike to go on a spending spree. Mike used the transfer budget on wages and signed just two players. Andy Nugent, 20 years old left back who had a spell with Burnley and Callum Gunner, midfielder, on loan from Bradford City. Due to lack of interest, no player left the mighty FC United.

Next update we will cover tactic and the first month of the season.

P.S. If anyone knows how I can make my screenshots bigger, please let me know :)

Good Luck with this :) I started my Journeyman save at FC United! It was a fun start to my career!

First month of the season

August

Hectic schedule for Mike Bassett and his boys with seven games in August. First game away from home against Stockport who is predicted to finish 4th in the league. We had to be solid at the back. Did not start well as Paul Turnbull gave Stockport the lead with just 10 minutes gone. The game ended 3-3, great result for the Red Rebels as our big target man Liam Dickinson, made it 3-3 on the 84th minute.

First home game of the season was against Ashton United, the only team predicted to finish below FC United, so Mike made it clear to the boys that this was a must-win game. Great 3-0 win and Mike Bassett was buzzing.

Just four days later another home game against Boston United who is predicted to struggle so Mike fancied his chances. Great 4-2 win, captain fantastic Harry Winter with two goals.

Our next game was another must-win game for Mike and the boys. Away from home against fellow relegation candidates Altrincham. Great start as Danny Galbraith gave Mike and the boys lead after just 4 minutes. 0-1 away from home, the best result there is.

Next game was Chester away from home. Chester had a bad start of the season so Mike was optimistic before the game. Boring 0-0. Captain Harry Winter was lucky not to get a red card, so Mike had to take him off in the second half. We respect the point away from home.

Mike had a full week to prepare the boys for a home game against Leamington and FC United were favorites going into the game. Good performance in a game we dominated, but two set pieces cost us. Disappointing 0-2 defeat. Reality check for Mike and FC United.

Just two days later we had a game away from home against Spennymoor. Hard fought draw and Mike pretty happy with the response after a tough loss in the last game.

The first month over and Mike Bassett can be happy with the outcome, here is the league table at the end of August.

September - undefeated

The League
After a good august month, the Red Rebels were optimistic for september. Just five games to play two at home and then three away games in a row. Poor performance at home against Bradford PA ended in 1-1 draw, we were lucky not to lose that game. A few days later we played Southport at home in a game that we won 2-1. The biggest match of the month it was away against Guiseley. At that point, FC United was 5th in the table and Guiseley was 6th. Mike Bassett special, a 0-1 win away from home with a goal from our target men Liam Dickinson and the boys were buzzing.

We had FA-cup game in september. The expectation from the board was to reach at least the fourth qualifying round so we needed to win this round and the next. This was the draw.
Away from home against semi-professional St.Ives Town. A game that we were favored to win, could be a tricky one. We made a couple of changes to the first team and were 0-3 up at halftime. We almost blew it up in the second half conceding two goals but managed to hang on a 2-3 win. The draw for the next round was good, getting the semi-professional ST. Neots Town at home.

Results, league table, and Mike learning

September was a good month for FC United, three wins, two draws and in the next round of the FA-cup. Mike Bassett is a student of the game and always eager to learn, so he convinced the FC United board to fund coaching course for him to gain National B Licence. October brings five more games to play, four in the league and FA-cup tie. Things are looking good for Mike Bassett and the Red Rebels.

All hail Liam Dickinson

October

FA-cup

So we had a pretty straightforward game against St. Neots Town in the FA-cup 3rd round. Mike Bassett saw a chance to rotate the first team. Good 4-1 win and getting two goals from our struggling striker Brodie Litchfield. Getting to the 4th round meant that we had fulfilled board expectation in the cup. We got a pretty tricky game in the 4th round, facing Vanarama National league team, Braintree away from home. Things were looking bad when Aaron Simpson gave Braintree the lead 2-1 at the 74th minute but Brodie Litchfield made it 2-2 at the 86th minute and giving us replay at home 4 days later.

Mike Bassett was eager to qualify for the next round of the cup and gave target man striker Liam Dickinson pep talk before the match, it worked. Dickinson scored two goals but the score was 2-2 after 90 minutes, and 2-2 after extra time so we went to penalty shootout. Our goalkeeper Lloyd Allinson saved two penalties and Mike Bassett boys scored from all four spot kicks. The crowd sang "It's coming home" and Mike Bassett could not contain himself and danced like never before. FC United next victim will be League one side Fleetwood Town.

The league
We played three league games in october, had to rearrange one game because of the FA-cup replay. Started the month at home against Darlington, solid 2-0 win with two goals from Big Liam Dickinson. Finished the month with a home win against Alfreton with Mike Bassett special 1-0 win with a goal in the end from our Big Liam Dickinson. Toughest game in the league was the match after the FA-cup replay, had to make a lot of changes of the first team because many players had played 120 minutes a few days earlier. We played against 7th placed Brackley in a match that ended 0-0, we did not hit the target the whole match and them dominated the game, so great point for Mike and the boys.

Results, league table, Big Liam Dickinson and coming month

Just a quick overview of the month, the league table and screenshot of our big man. November will be though, five games and just one at home and facing three of the strongest teams in the league (Kidderminster, Blyth, Teleford) with a quick trip to Fleetwood in the FA-cup. Mike Bassett knows that everything must fall for his boys to make november successful.

Honeymoon over?

November

The league
Mike Bassett came in a good spirit and ready to face though november month with five games, and four of them away from home. At the start of the month, it was announced that Mike Bassett came in second in the manager of the month for october.

Started the month with a game against Blyth away from home. A disappointing 1-0 loss in a game where we should have gotten a point, but our big target man Liam Dickinson could not score. Just three days later we faced the impossible, or at least that what the media told us, Kidderminster away from home.

Mike Bassett used this article as a motivation for his boys, used no team talk, just hang it in the locker room and walked out. It worked as Mike expected. Mike Bassett special, a 0-1 win away from home, mission impossible accomplished. A goal from our own David Beckham, Danny Racchi from free-kick. Racchi has a whopping 11 in free-kick taking.
We had a tough game against league one side Fleetwood away from home. With already succeeded board expectations in the cup we went there with no pressure at all and lost the game 2-0 and we had no shots on target and just 3 off target. A great cup run over for Red Rebels.

Results, league table and upcoming month
Just a quick overview, managed just to win one game and scoring just one goal the whole month. Things are still looking good though but we need our Big man Liam Dickinson to start scoring again if we want to start winning games again. We got five games coming up in december, three at home and two away. Some favorable home games against struggling sides, Mike will want to win those.

Our own Rufus Smalls

December

The league

Two wins and two losses in december in the league for Mike and his boys. Two awful losses against York and Leamington, 3-1 and 3-0. Our first home game of the month came against Curzon Ashton who is struggling and Red Rebels fancy their chances. Curzon Ashton scored on 4th minute and nothing was happening going forward for FC United. Tactical genius Mike Bassett put young forward Brodie Litchfield on in the second half, he equalized on 86th min and Big Liam Dickinson finished the job on the 90th minute, 2-1 win. Last game of the year came against struggling Spennymoor at home, our best performance in the league for a long time, winning 4-0 with three goals from our young striker Brodie.

FA-trophy

In december we played in the FA-trophy, and our first game was away from home against Leamington. A great 1-2 victory where young Brodie scored both goals. With that win, we had fulfilled board expectations and draw against Vanarama national league side Boreham Wood. Great 2-2 draw away from home with two goals from Big Liam Dickinson. Replay was played at packed Broadhurst Park, a great game that ended in a disappointing 2-3 loss.

League table, results, upcoming schedule, and our own Rufus Smalls
Just a quick overview of the month. Seven games played three wins, three losses, and one draw. Mike can be pretty happy with that after very tough november month. Six games to be played in january. Mike Bassett asked for more wages for players for the upcoming transfer window - the board accepted, but Mike found out that even after raised wages the club was still over the limit. It is unlikely that players will join in january, maybe a striker on loan move. With only three strikers at the club, Mike is eager to bring in one more. Young Brodie and Big Liam Dickinson are scoring but it appears that we have found ourself our own Rufus Smalls. Kurt Willoughby has played 22 league games 22(2) and has yet to score. Will put a screenshot of him here, he has scored two goals in the cup.

January

January

The league
Just league games this month, three at home and three away from home. Played Chorley twice this month, winning both games 0-1 Mike Bassett special away from home and 2-0 at home, Mike wishing he could play them every game. Unlucky to lose against promotion rivals Bradford PA 1-0 away from home in a game we should have gotten a point. Last game of the month came against Stockport at Broadhurst Park, losing 1-2, in a game we could have lost with 4-5 goals. When Mike looked at the schedule at the beginning of the month he saw away game against bottom side Ashton Utd, he expected to get 3 points in that game. 2-1 down at halftime and FC United playing poorly, second half much better but we were lucky to get 1 point when on-loan striker Louis Robles scored his second goal of the game on 92 minutes.

Transfers in
Not much money to spend in january making things hard for Mike Bassett to improve the squad. We are struggling to score with only 6 teams scoring fewer goals then we are, but at the same time, we have the 3rd best defense in the league. Mike went and got striker Louis Robles on loan from Grimsby, with only 7 in finishing but 13 in pace so hopefully, he can help us. Mike also got a right winger Jack Everest on trial for one week. Mike was impressed with his performance that week and decided to offer him one year contract.

Results, league table, upcoming schedule and a new contract
Just a quick overview, three losses, two wins, and one draw this month. Really should have won that game against Ashton Utd but given that we equalized at 92 minute we can´t really complain. Just four games in february and Mike really wants to get 9 points, with three of these game against struggling teams. We are still in a playoff spot but it will be hard to maintain that. There was some positive news at the start of the month as Mike Bassett got a new contract
