Biggest obstacle I've had to face this year is making players perform. I've tried everything but I just can't seem to make them stop crying like babies and start playing to their abilities.

I can have several games in a row with atleast 3 clear cut chanses and 20+ shots on goal with nothing to show for it. I've tried to boost morale by only giving compliments, tried yelling at them, giving them fines, nothing works.

Not even when their morale is superb and they look composed they still cant even play a simple pass, with 18 passing and 16 decisions, retain posession and low tempo it shouldnt be that hard. You'd think.. I have top superstar worldfamous players who rarely get above 7 in rating.

But some games now and then they decide, "meh alright ill play" and they dominate and we beat top teams 7-0. Then they go, "look what i can do, now gimme a new contract". 20 ****** games and 1 good, go ..... yourself. And.. were back to 6.5 ratings.

I like everyone else have Lewandowski, but for me he is just ****. Last season I must have fined him 20 weeks of wages in total, he is basicly playing for free.

So of course my question is, how do you make them perform? and dont say tactics, mine is rock solid and has been very sucessful, especially first season.

Motivating players is also related with your status as manager: if you have an history as a former international player, the players reaction to your lectures will be a lot better. Then, your interaction with the press is also something that as an impact in their motivation.
Don't forget to chat with your players after each match, praise their performance.

Yes I understand that but seeing as the players still perform like **** even tho their morale is 'superb', it cant be a morale issue. And players like Lewandowski with decent consitency shouldnt be playing like he is. So somewhere the players seem to think they dont need to perform. Sure I win games even when they dont play well. I just sub the ones who play the worst and change to a less risky tactic. But being substituted, fined and yelled at when their morale is good should motivate them to play better (atleast in my book) but no.

As for my own attributes, they are poor as im only in the third season, but my reputation is great.

so you would be happy to work for the next 2 weeks for nothing whilst your fellow workers get full pay

If my wages were based on my performance then yeah. Earn millions each year and slack off, youd be happy to keep your job. Dont do your job, you dont get paid. Or am I missing something here?

In general do most of your players have 'high determination', 'high team work' & 'high work rate' stats? If they have low stats for these attributes then that may be the issue.

This just made me rethink everything about this game, morale, match training.. everything. Saved my gsme before a tough high preassure CL game, loaded up my best team with my most sucessful tactic. Won 3-1 after some minor changes during the game. Loaded the game and tried a new tactic I found, one that people were writing very good things about and posting great results.
Put my worst possible team on the pitch. Players who havnt performed all season and even two unhappy players. With no training in this tactic or formation. Completely new instructions. Guess what, they won 8-0. Tactics play a much smaller role this year, bull.. They all rated 8-9 and both strikers scored hattrick. Even my unhappy player had the game of his life.

oh, ok, so the problem isn't motivation. Well, then it must be your tactics... share some screenshots.

Reloaded an older save just to try it on a team I struggled with.

First attempt, worst players I could field.

Next, try to demotivate them as much as possible.

Half time, now they are playing badly (demotivate them further)

End result, 3-2 win.. wtf

Next test, field best team and motivate them.

End result almost the same.

I know this doesn't qualify as any kind of proof of my theory. But from these matches the tactics is the most important when deciding the outcome. Not morale.. and form just seems to be completely random.

I have to completly disagree. There are some questions that you must address:

- what team are you managing ?
- what status do you have as former football player ?

Then it would also be useful for you to share some screenshots of your tactic with team instructions, roles and duties.

My former experience is set to automatic. But reputation is great due to success in earlier seasons. My team is Arsenal as you can see from the screenshots.

Imo opinion great players with confidence and high morale should play better than poor players with language issues and low morale. Would take a lot of testing but I have my doubts on morale affecting form.

Even when the team is playing great and everybody is happy, in superb condition and appears to be in form. Some players still wont be performing to their abilities. Sure, they might have problems facing the opposition. But this is where I feel they still shouldnt fail to score on 10 attempts, with some even being clear cut chances.

I have always thought there must be something I have overlooked as there is so much affecting how a player reacts when put on the pitch. But what if.. form is just like rolling a dice. At least feels like it.
