already tried the latest drivers James, it didnt fully solve the problem. Good idea Lee, laptops can get overheated easily if their fans get clogged up with dust over time.

I'm playing on a desktop not a laptop so it overheating still likely to be a possible problem?

When I got in tonight I started a game as an experiment to see how it was running and it was fine, nice and smooth. But when I began a proper game and started changing tactics, scouting players etc. the game suddenly appears to jump again when I play.

This would suggest that, now the latest graphics drivers are installed, it's not actually a graphics issue anymore but an issue with the CPU.

I'm confused because I would assume that taking it in to be repaired and restored to factory settings would have increased the speed rather than slowing it down.

It could still definently be a heat problem, it does sound like it because ur saying that as the pc has to do more things, it is having problems. Doing more work = more heat. Download this program and report back what your temperatures are when the computer is idle and also when it is slow and jumpy. You can set the program to record the temperatures and save them so you can look back at them after quitting the game but I can't remember how. Lee may know the answer to that

Thanks Jak, I'll download that and see what it says.

There are people online recommending various processes to speed up a PC - defragmentation and disk cleanup, for example. I'll give them a try and see if it makes a difference.

My 3D game has been jumpy so my mate suggested this to me : CTRL + ALT + DEL -- > Task Manager --> Processes -- > fm.exe --> right click --> Set Prioritie --> High.

Should work better now ;)

When I go to change the priority on Task Manager it gives me a scary warning about how it could screw my computer up - is that a possibility?

I had a clean up last night and deleted unnecessary programs and when I started playing again it ran fine but as the evening went on it became more and more jumpy again. It looks like I just won't be able to solve this problem and that I'll have to stick with the 2D view.

what games are you guys playing in 3D??? what systems do you have? the 3D televisions have only been released in SA now ;)

Something about system instability ? Ignore it lol, hasn't ****** up for me :P

Bobby that still sounds like a heat issue. did u download the program that i suggested?

I've just downloaded it and it's giving me about 34C for Core#0 and 40C for Core#1 when idle - I'll see how it hots up for FM!

that seems normal for core 0 but core 1 does seem a bit high. Ye when you can message back your temps for FM. Would be good if you could post them for when FM is fine but also when it gets jumpy

Hey Jak,

The game's been running pretty smoothly recently but during games when it does jump the temperature can be anything from 50C - 53C for Core#0 and 54C-58C for Core#1.

What do you reckon?

Those temperatures sound fine, so we can rule out the heat.

Is it still jumpy if you set the 3D to the lowest settings possible?

It's actually been running smoothly pretty consistently for the last couple of nights with only a few skippy jump jerky games occasionally which I can handle.

Hopefully the worst has passed and it's reasonably smooth gaming from here on in. Although I've said that before...

I just wanted to say how great it is to have such helpful people out there who actively look to sort out other gamer's problems. I've had technical problems and throughout last week posters such as Lee and particularly Jak have tried to help me out.

Thanks for all your advice guys! (K)

I really don't know what's going on.

I begin a session and the 3D game is absolutely fine. Then, after a couple of hours, it begins to jump slightly. The jumpiness steadily increases until it's impossible to play in 3D so I switch to 2D. 2D is fine but, eventually, that too begins to slow down and jump as I'm playing to the point that I can no longer watch that..

Lee has said temperature isn't an issue and the temperature isn't increasing the more that I play (it remains about the same as I've written above) but it appears simply that the longer I'm on the PC the less able it is to cope with Football Manager.

It's not even like I'm opening more programs or asking the PC to do more. I have the same programs open when I first begin to play (when it works fine) than I do when it starts to jump a couple of hours later.

I've simply come on here to moan because I don't think there's anything left to try is there?
