My best tactic for FM14

Been using this for 2 seasons now and not doing too bad really but only concern is the LB. He always plays awful no matter who he is. I am oxford city and killed the first season with promotion with 102 points and now in the last match of the skrill promotion currently in 4th but need to win or draw for play offs. 9/10 times even with a win the LB will get a rating of under 6 and will almost let a goal from his position every game. Is it me and my choice of LB's or anyone else had a problem?

This is something I'm looking at, I have been waiting for the patch though so not done much testing, but in my test file I have changed from wingbacks to full backs, nothing else changed at this time and it seems slightly better you can try this if you want

Have you ever considered trying to make this tactic into a 4-4-2? I believe 4-4-2 is one of the best formations on this series and having two strikers may increase the likelihood of goals. Possibly have two false nine strikers?

I haven't considered this at all yet, but two false9's would probably be a bad idea, you'd want a pair of roles that would compliment each other

If you look at the 'Zero Sea' tactic, he plays with three false nine strikers so the combination does work.

indeed man, I have not even touched individual instructions either so I think if they can be used to further improve this then I will be happier

That is interesting mate, I would never have thought that would work however depending on individual instructions the roles may just be cosmetic and play differently. I cant say without trying it first if it will be good or not

Though I have some feedback which has been mentioned above. The wing-backs perform terrible most games; unless the LB sets up a corner bug goal. Usually the wing-backs are the reason I concede goals (I have signed so many trying to solve this). My team is definitely not amazing but I do think this is tactic related because it happened when I got promoted and was dominating opponents. I am currently testing changing them to FB's only played 2 games though.

The second thing I noticed is I concede alot from corners even though I run defensive positioning all the time (this could be team related though).

Hey man, thanks for the feedback, let me know how the switch to full backs goes for you, there are issues for this position going around and some people ive seen have even refused to utilise it, however i think that it is more to do with the movement in the roles.

from my understanding of FM14's role descriptors the wingback is used in a formation which has no wingers, thus providing width to the team, this tactic has wingers rendering wing backs pointless, however a full back will be more defensive in his duties and only overlap when there is an opportunity. This is why I think this change will improve this part of the tactic, however further tweaking may need done.

as for corners, your going to concede them unless you have man mountains in every position with amazing mental attributes and train defending set pieces every match. I have found in my save that dropping Balanta and playing Zouma alongside Doria resulted in no goals from corners in 10 matches, however I played Balanta in the 11th and conceded straight away, be it coincidence or not. The computer also has the chance of pulling off the short corner bug, and scoring from that. It is just luck sometimes. But I will look at different combo's to try and erradicate these issues.

I tried the WB to FB change 11 games in I managed 5 wins 5 losses 1 draw.
From the early signs are as follows the left back position performed markedly better over these games averaging 6.9 from 6.4. The right back position still seems to need work averaging 6.4 from 6.3. I survived relegation I will try and run this changed for a whole season and give you my thoughts.

I reverted back to the original tactic after losing to Cardiff and Porto, then won all my games including a 5-0 champions league final win.
I will get the file uploaded in next few mins till I can spend time testing further improvement

One of the changes is the d-line playing a bit higher now so not sure if this has anything to do with it. I do know that my back 5 were a shambles on occasion though and got pulled about all over the place.

I played a new save with newcastle, no transfers at all and scored an average of 3 goals per game conceding 1 in 10 competitive matches

I used the one in the OP, but i was half way through the season with Villa and it didnt work
