Need help playing defensive football.

Congratz on creating your tactic here...it looks good as far as controlling goes :)
I'm trying to get that same level of control with Newcastle playing a 442, when I create my own tactics and I keep failing. Hope you don't mind if I follow this for hints and tips.
 
First of all, congratulations on the following results. By this rate, you will be able to get better results and keep out the bigger teams.

However, in all of your games recently, it looks like you have been giving away a lot of fouls and gaining a lot of yellow cards. I would suggest not playing aggressive tackling anymore, unless allocating it to a player who can actually do it with minimal risk of them being sent off. Try Default tackling, or even More Cautious. Standing off of them and waiting for them to attack is the main reason behind counter-attacking. This can, and should work.

Thanks i am heading back on to FM again i will post an update in 5 games. It might help people see the type of results you can get from this idea :)
 
@nick how about the tempo and defensive line, mate ? Based on your article, is it ST role is a complete forward ? I am so excited about your article picture about benitez run use his pace for counter attack

Looks like you're doing well, im about to start a new game with Wolves and im hoping to play a tight counter attacking game too, although nothing i do seems to work since the latest patch i'm going to give it my best :)
