Need help with creating a tactic. Not looking for one but making one.

So i have been playing football manager for a year now and i hate downloading tactics. So i want to make a tactic but i always end up failing. so here are two questions for all you pro tactic makers.

Is it alot of trial and error?
how do i get the shape right?


any advice would be greatly appreicated.

actually if u make one out of the TC and use the defaults given its actually not that bad already. all you need left is right players for that tactic
