I hope someone can help me with my striker. I just cant seem to get him to score goals. I`m in my 4th season now with Portsmouth and in all my seasons my striker is 'like a ghost'. Sometimes he will pass a ball or give an assist or even score, but most of the time it`s like he`s just a fantom, not participating in the game at all. I dont even feel like it is his fault, but the other players. They wont pass him the ball, or put him in position in front of the goal. The just keep on shooting from far, or walking with the ball to no end around the box, both to no means most of the times.

I`m in my fourth season now and I`tried so many tactic tweak with no effect. I`m not looking for plug and play advice, I`ll post screens of my own tactic below. I just find it unreal the role that my forward plays in the game. I`m really having fun with the game, but this gives a sour taste in my mouth. I want my striker to score goals and be part of the game.

I`ve tried direct passing, not playing on possesion, inside forwards, wingers etc. My striker rol now is poacher but I`ve given him all the roles in the book also. So I hope someone of you can help me.

Too much traffic in the forward zone. A poacher with 2 IF's attacking ??? It's just too much crowded!!! The problem is not the poacher!

The poacher was a bit of a last try. Most of the seasons I played my striker was an advanced forward. But are you saying with inside forwards your striker will score almost nothing as a result?

Have you thought about changing some of the team instructions , This is how I line up and the team instructions I use and I've had as lot of success

If the space is crowded with both your IF's cutting inside where there is a Poacher plus the opponent's players, how do you expect him to do anything ??? You need to create space, that's why I said the problem is not the poacher, is with your players duties and team instructions.

You have too many attacking duties, and the support ones as they are APs are also players that will make RFD's. Try to combine roles and duties, have just one attacking duty in defence, use a defensive / support / attack duties in midfield and have a support duty in attack

try Walk Ball in to the Box

change one or both Inside Forward to Winger or Advance Playmaker

may be change your forward to False-9 will work.

So with you the poacher/inside forward roles do combine? And dont you have the problem that your players keep passing the ball for ever with retain possession, instead of given the trough ball? And how is your striker being passed at most of the time?

But I dont even play with an attacking midfielder, how full can it really get. But my frustration more comes from that nobody plays or even tries to play the ball to my striker. It always feels random if my striker scores a goal.

IF's naturally make RWB frequently and they need players that create space for them to cut inside, a poacher doesn't create space, he's a static player inside the area. You will have to review your player's duties as I said before.

Does it also help not playing possession football. I`ve a feeling that with the latest patch the match engine kind of kills possession football. It only results in 3 things most of the times with me. Playing the ball around the box without any use, lot of long shots from outside the box from midfielders because they cant pass the ball anymore and backs not crossing but always cutting it back to edge of the box, which results in a midfielder shooting from outside the box. So maybe play direct style/high tempo would suit a striker better?

No it doesn't. That's my style of playing and it works just fine, it's all about your instructions, roles and duties.

So if I play with 2 Inside forwards and a complete forward, what would the duty for each be. Support IF and a Attack CF? Or the other way around.

You don't have to use a CF :-) it's not mandatory!!! For instance, you could use an IF on a flank and a winger on the other flank, this way it would be more logic to have a positional player at the middle like a Poacher or an AF. If you set two IF's with an attacking duty, then you will need a role with a support duty in the middle. If you set one IF with an attack duty and the other IF with a support one, an attacking role is also ok. There are several combinations you can choose, the important thing is to connect defense, midfield and attack.

Poacher is a bit old-fashioned tactical role in fm14. It's movement like penetration is not as good as that of fm12.

Well I reviewed everything. Gave inside forwards new roles and duties. Same for my central midfielders and striker. Made it so I felt like everything was good and connected. Don`t know if I`m lucky or made the wright connection, but my striker went from 3 goals in 17 matches to 7 goals in 6 matches:)
