Hello!

I've played Football Manager for a few years now, and I still haven't been able to answer this question properly. Is it better to build a tactic around a team? Or a team around a tactic? I've had some success trying both methods, but I've also had some massive failures. I really can't decide which method to choose.

I was wondering what you guys do. Let me know your thoughts on this.

Thanks.

Both methods are vaiable, you're the manager...but if board wants a specific philosophy, you should obey...

By understanding what formations and tactics best suit the Attributes and Preferred Moves of the players you already have - and can bring in straight away - and conforming to the Board's stated philosophy, as Igneos79 said, you will get to the point where you dictate the philosophy to the Board and can buy and retrain players to suit whatever tactics you want to play.

But the natural changeover of personnel from season-to-season will change the dynamic of your squad and may impact on the suitability of some players to fit into existing tactical systems - which is why I encourage other FMers to always have three sets of tactics on the go, and be prepared to replace those that no longer get results with new ones as you tweak and modify to get the best out of the skills and strengths of as many of your players as possible.

Thanks for the responses! I guess it's not really a question that can be answered fully. I completely depends on your preferences, and what the board want.
