Network game help...please?

Trying to do a network game with a friend. Set it all up and everything, when he puts in my IP address, it doesn't work.

Now the IP address is in the format xx.***.xx.*** / xx.***.xx.*** i've done both on their own, with the space either side of the / or without a space, and he still cannot find my game. Can anyone explain why, or point me in the direction of a guide to help?

its the ipv4 address you need mate, none of them are that. everybody says hamachi is the best thing to use because it shows your ipv4 address next to your names, or check your internet settings and it is stated in there somewhere
