Hi All

Long time Champ/FM fan and player here, new to the FM Base community!

I'm in the market for a new laptop (last one died suddenly) I have a budget of ?400-600, I usually run 4-5 leagues with large database. Ideally I want something compact but that's not essential.

I know the minimum system requirements are 1.8ghz but I'm reading lots about faster GHZ AMD's being slower than lower speed GHZ Intel.

What's the minimum I should be aiming for the leagues I run???

Any help is greatly appreciated!!

The main thing you should be looking for is a higher end intel processor - 4th gen is a good bet + they're usually 2.5GHz+. Have a look at pc specialist because that allows you to cater it for your needs more. You won't need a great graphics card, even if you're in 3D view, intel 4600 integrated graphics should do, if not a very low end GPU will be fine. 4GB of RAM should be fine. You can probably get a laptop with similar specs + OS for 400-500 pounds. But on places like software swap on reddit you can pick up windows keys for less than 10 pounds - just make sure the seller is reputable - that'll save you a fair bit and could drop the price below 400 quid.

Thanks JHarpoon, this will help my search, although how can I tell what gen a processor is? Most sites like Currys and Argos don't list gen. Also what about Processors 1.9ghz with 2.5ghz turbo boost, any good, or just a gimmick?

Thanks again!

It'll usually say in the tech specs on the webpage, if not if it's a 4xxx series (i3-4100M for example), it'll be a 4th gen. Turbo boost only comes into effect when the processor hits it's limits so it's basically like having a reserve so it's like having a 2.5GHz processor but it uses more power when in turbo boost so it's better to get a higher clock speed at a lower TDP.

No problem!

Hey so I can only really find 3rd gen, I've seen one that's a single core i5 Which is only 1.7ghz, so this wouldn't be enough to run?

Processor and RAM memory
The Intel Core i5-3317U is a popular model of the Core Intel family. This is a low voltage version of a high-class processor. With a maximum TDP of 17 watts, and a 3 MB cache, you will realize that you need nothing else to run a perfectly good business laptop. The processor was created via the 22-nanometer manufacturing process. The basic clock speed of the processor is 1.7 GHz, but you achieve up to 2.6 GHz with the help of Turbo Boost technology.
The integrated video card in the machine is Intel HD Graphics 4000, but this particular configuration has a discrete NVIDIA graphics chip. The K56 has 4 GB of RAM memory, and it runs at 1333 MHz.

I went on game-debate to see if it'll be able to run it with those specs and it can. the only thing is the HD 4000 graphics are a bit low but should still run it fine.
