Liking this story, no just because I'm a toon fan but because its realistic (not winning every game). Got to say though some interesting and strange transfer dealings. Keep it up. HWTL

Ta i'm trying to keep it realistic rather than just signing Ademilson, Wellington Nem etc and winning every thing.

TOON AGREE BENALOUANE DEAL

View attachment 285430

Newcastle United have completed a £800k deal for Tunisian centre-back Yohan Benalouane.

The 26 year-old was out of contract at the end of the campaign so his Italian club Cesena decided to cash in.

Benalouane nearly joined United in the summer but he failed a medical. Since then his knee injury has healed and he was given the all clear to join the Magpies.

The powerful defender has been capped 12 times by his country and he becomes Newcastle first January addition.

Alan Pardew's side are also believed to be closing in on Le Mans duo Abdelhakim Omrani and Anthony Koura. Both have rejected new contracts at the French side and could leave in the summer on frees.

FEBRUARY/MARCH REVIEW

It was a poor couple of months that only produced two wins and a disappointing cup exit. I failed to pick up maximum points to three very winnable games against Bolton, Swansea and Villa and inexplicably lost at home to Leyton Orient. Even though I fielded a young side they had more than enough to get the job done. The two saving graces were the emphatic derby win and the fact that most of the teams around me were also inconsistent apart from Norwich who amazingly are having a tilt at the title!

Boss in defiant mood ahead of Blues clash

Toon gaffer Alan Pardew has urged his team to take the initiative in the battle for Champions League football by beating Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

United are currently one point and one place better off than the Londoners and Pardew knows its make or break time.

Speaking to the Evening Chronicle he said: "We need to stand up and be counted down at Chelsea.

"Its a really tough place to go but we need to get a positive result in order to keep our season alive."

Newcastle sit three points behind fourth place Everton heading into the final seven games of the campaign.

Cisse treble helps United sink Chelsea

Papiss Cisse netted an incredible hat-trick as Newcastle won a seven goal thriller at Stamford Bridge to keep their Champions League dreams alive.

Hatem Ben Arfa opened the scoring before Cisse headed Newcastle 2-0 up just before the interval.

Chelsea came storming back with goals from Jefferson Farfan and Demba Ba before the hour mark.

But as the hosts pressed for a winner in the last 20 minutes United struck twice on the break; both times Cisse ran clear of Ivanovic and smashed past Petr Cech.

Moussa Sissoko then wrapped up an incredible victory with a powerful header from Yohan Cabaye's late corner.

Newcastle are now four points clear of sixth placed Chelsea and just a point behind Everton in fourth with six games remaining.

Terrific run leads to third place finish

Newcastle's winning surge towards the end of the season is enough to secure automatic Champions League football for the first time since Sir Bobby Robson's team of 2002/03.

Papiss Cisse notched a further 10 goals in the final seven games to win the Premier League Golden Boot with 33 strikes in total. Cisse's run of form included two hat-tricks, one at Chelsea and the other in the final game against Norwich.

Jonas Gutierrez put an inconsistent season behind him to become a permanent fixture in the team for the final seven games with devastating effect. He scored five goals and contributed two more assists as United soared into the top three.

Newcastle will build for Champions league campaign

Alan Pardew has vowed to spend whatever funds he has available ahead of the 2014/15 season.

Last term Newcastle managed to finish third despite a net spend of just £250,000 and have spent just £800,000 so far this summer.

The Toon boss explained: "We need reinforcements, of course we do.

"We struggled in with the Europa League last year and the Champions League will be even tougher.

"We can attract a higher calibre of player now and that's what we need to progress.

"We are not just in the Champions League to make up the numbers and we need to maintain our league position too.

"In my three years here we have got back into Europe, won the Capital One cup and qualified for the Champions League; we want to keep progressing."

Hartlepool forward Luke James has joined up with the Newcastle squad after finally completing his long standing move to the Tynesiders.

Brazilian defender joins in £6million deal

Newcastle have finally opened their chequebook to land Celta Vigo stopper Douglas on a four-year-contract.

The 26-year-old was a target last summer but chose to join Celta from FC Twente on a free transfer.

Douglas becomes Newcastle's fourth signing of the summer while the exit list has been more extensive.

Ryan Taylor joined North East rivals Middlesbrough for £1.5million while Romain Amalifitano left for Catania for a fee of £1.2million.

Crowd favourites Shola Ameobi and Steve Harper have been allowed to leave on free transfers while Marcus Maddison, Bradden Inman and Mehdi Abeid have left on loan.

Toon capture Loic Remy in £7.5million deal

Newcastle have pulled off a huge transfer coup by signing French international forward Loic Remy from Marseille.

The 27-year-old had been transfer listed by request at his old club and swiftly agreed terms on a five-year-deal with United.

The pacey forward notched 21 times in Ligue 1 last term and won Marseille's Player of the Year award but despite that Remy had grown tired of life at the Stade Velodrome.

Newcastle had been long term admirers of the player but the asking price had always been too high until Remy's transfer request forced Marseille to listen to lower offers.

Flush with Champions League money United struck a deal to make the Frenchman their highest paid player.

The former Lyon striker missed out on France's World Cup squad for Brazil but has still made 40 appearances for his country scoring 17 goals in the process.
