Ortega arrives in Newcastle
Mike Ashley today has stepped down as Newcastle United chairman selling the club for a reported ?120 million. New owner, Spanish billionaire Amancio Ortega has already said that he wants to bring Newcastle back to the premiership with "Top class players". Ortega's first job at Newcastle is to find a new manager as he has already sacked manager Chris Hughton, in a controversial move that has proven to be unpopular with many fans of the club. The media is buzzing with the prospect of big names promised. Ortega has promised the next manager will have the funds to sign top class talent. Alan Shearer is being touted as the bookies favorite to take charge of his boy hood team but no word from either side as of yet. The only thing we know, this is exciting times for Newcastle fans. Hughton leaving Newcastle training ground today
Today Newcastle United have parted ways with manager Chris Hughton after just 2 months in charge. Speculation regarding Hughton's future had been rife since the start of the season after the club's recent takeover, with the new owner looking to appoint someone who can take Newcastle to the next level. The team currently in the Championship having been relegated from the division under Alan Shearer in May 2009. Hughton took over from the former club captain and slowly became a popular figure among the players and supporters at St James' Park.

"The board would like to place on record their thanks to Chris for his considerable efforts at the club. Chris has shown exceptional character and commitment since being appointed manager. Newcastle will be looking to bring in a new manager as quickly as they can with the start of the season less than a month away and they will be looking to bounce straight back into the Premier League. Here are the bookies favorites to be named next Newcastle Manager:

Michael Laudrup
- 3/1
Lee Clark - 4/1
Tony Pulis 16/1

Cabaye on his way to meet new team mates.
Terry Overton has made Lille's Yohan Cabaye his second signing of the summer, after agreeing a five-year deal for the midfielder. He is a fan favorite at Lille but told his team-mates before their final game of the season that he was bound for Tyneside. The transfer fee is reported to be ?6m. "This is a fantastic move for me," Cabaye said.
"I have enjoyed great times with Lille but the time is right now to test myself against the best and playing for Newcastle United in England does just that". He then added "My first impressions of the club and the city are that it is a lovely place and the stadium is magnificent." At the press conference Overton stated that "Yohan is such a great player" before adding "Cabaye really is one of those unsung hero player types. He not only wins the ball he also keeps it. He plays short simple accurate passes, and will keep the team ticking over".
