THE INJURY BUG HITS MILLWALL AGAIN

View attachment 307470It seems to be that Millwall strikers have been cursed by the injury bug.

It’s some more bad news for Millwall in the injury department as recently loaned striker,
Nicky Maynard, and current starting striker, Ricardo Fuller, are both nursing injuries.

Both players were injured in the game against Ipswich, where Millwall suffered their first
loss of the season. Maynard is expecting to be out for a long period of time with a suspected
broken ankle and Ricardo Fuller, who is looking slower and slower each game, is expected to
be out for five to six weeks with a sports hernia.

Both players will be sorely missed, as the striker depth at Millwall is again limited to one
fit player, Mathias Ranegie, who is also coming back from a significant amount of time out
of the game. Nicky Maynard who has only been at the club for a couple of weeks was really
starting to turn heads scoring in his debut game from Millwall. He was a player who was
threatening in and around the box and created chances for everyone. “I’m really disappointed
for both players, especially Nicky, who was really starting to gel with the guys and become
a staple in the first team. We are really starting to scrape the bottom of the barrel at
the moment for Striker reinforcements, Alfie Pavey, one of our youth academy player
will probably get the call up to replace either of these two”
said Teddy after the Ipswich
game.

Maynard and Fuller will join Beevers and McCrorie on the injury list with all expected to
miss an extensive period of time.

A PERFECT OCTOBER FOR A PERFECT MILLWALL

Well when Millwall’s fans ask for a solid start to the season, I bet they didn’t expect this. Millwall
who were expected to struggle at the bottom of the table are challenging the big boys at the top
end of the Sky Bet Championship. Could Teddy Sheringham lead them back to the top tier of
English Football?

This month was a pleasant surprise for Millwall fans as the Lions looked to be playing some really free
flowing football that Teddy Sheringham is trying to implement. He has got the whole squad believing in his
philosophy and with that the results are starting to come.

The month started with a less than convincing 2-1 victory over at the time, top of the table, Wolves. Gary
Mackay-Steven was the difference in this game, creating chances and scoring the winner in the 83rd minute.

Millwall then ventured to the DW Stadium for a contest again Wigan. Wigan were all over Millwall early,
creating opportunity after opportunity before the away team had woken up. Lucky for them though, Wigan
were unable to capitalise and it was Millwall who walked away with all three points. Magaye Gueye made a
wonderful contributing scoring a brace.

The third game of the month was broadcasted on TV at home against newly relegated, Cardiff.
Millwall dominated the game from start to finish and were deserved winners. Ricardo Fuller was once again on
the score sheet as well as Nicky Bailey, a very unlikely goal scorer.

The game of the month was undoubtedly the away fixture against Watford that saw a late header from
Ricardo Fuller the only separation between the two sides. The match was always very close and Millwall were
lucky to come away with three points in this one.

Gary Mackay-Steven has been a key contributor for Millwall scoring, assisting and just being an all-round
threat around the box. He’s quick, allusive and skilful play has put many of the Championship backlines
under a lot of pressure and has doubtfully deserved being awarded Championship Player of the Month
in October.

“I can’t thank the manager enough, he and the backroom staff have really helped me improve in the
short time I’ve been at Millwall. I’ve really enjoyed playing infront of our home supporters, it’s been
a dream coming into a new club and being treated the way I have. Hopefully both the form of the
team as well as myself go on further throughout the season”
said Mackay-Steven after being awarded
Player of the Month.

Millwall manager has just recently penned a new deal keeping him at the club for another two years.

Teddy Sheringham who has guided his Millwall team to a very respectable third in the table to far this
season, has been rewarded by the club’s board with a new contract that runs until the end of the
2016/17 season.

Sheringham was employed by the club taking over from Ian Holloway in August of 2014. He has enjoyed a
great spell at the club he played at for eight season, seeing them overachieving in third place in most people’s
eyes. “It’s just great to see the club that I grew up playing for playing so well, is wonderful for the fans as well
as the players. I’m very surprised at just how well the players are reacting to my style of play and my philosophies.”

Teddy has been a large figure in the clubs history, and is helping many of the young players make a mark
on the club. Fred Onyedinma has been one of these young players to benefit from Sheringham’s ‘Age is only
a number’ philosophy and had taken the opportunities he’s been given in the first team with both hands. Sid
Nelson who has been touted as Millwall’s next first team captain has also been a key figure in Sheringham’s
first team, playing alongside star player, Shaun Williams, in the centre of defence.

UNLUCKY MILLWALL LOOSE POINTS

It was a perfect month in October recording four wins from four matches. Millwall were looking
to at least stay settled in the top three if not challenge for the automatic promotional places.
Unsurprisingly Millwall had an inconsistent November, after the heights on the month before.

Blackburn at home in front of the Millwall faithful was the first match of the month and
Millwall’s performance showed tiredness from the outset. There was no really movement in
the final third and the players were clearly struggling after the month before. If it wasn’t for
a wonder striker from Magaye Gueye in the 88th minute, Millwall would’ve come
away from the match with nothing at all.

Brentford followed with another match at home in front of our own fans, and again Millwall
struggled. Brentford scored early on and sat back with basically every player behind the
ball and countered when they could. They played a very defensive minded game, but were
too good for the Lions and deserved the three points.

We then travelled to Charlton for the first of two away matches to finish off the month.
After two average matches the Lions needed to quickly improve and that they did. They
battered Charlton’s defense putting five goals past keeper, Stephen Henderson. It was
again, Gary Mackay-Steven and Magaye Gueye who stepped up for Millwall both scoring
braces.

Bournemouth at Dean Court was the final match for the month and Teddy Sheringham was
fairly happy with how his team finished off the month although not getting the result in his
mind, they deserved. “I think we improved throughout this season and probably
deserved the three points today. There are going to be times where our game plan
doesn’t work and that’s fine, we just need to keep improving and keeping grinding
away and the boys know that. It’s a long road for us, the project is on the right track
in both my eyes and the boards eyes.”
Said Mr. Sheringham after the 1-1 draw with
Bournemouth.

Magaye Gueye has been a real scoring threat for Millwall this year and has been rewarded
by signing an extension at the club. “I’m very happy to be at this up and coming club.
I am really happy with how the squad is being run and the manager is a great
footballing mind. He knows how to win matches and that’s what I want to do,
win.”

Gueye has also been rewarded by his country making is debut for the nation team, not scoring
a goal yet but has been a linchpin in their attacking midfield so far in his young international career.
