Hi, my name is Michael and I have decided to create a Notts County story. I know it’s easy but as it’s my first story I thought I’d give it a go. I’m hoping to become a more advanced FM player soon so a few harder stories should be coming soon. Also I know someone has a title like this, I can’t remember who it was but sorry if I took your idea.

Notts County Football Club

Founded in 1862, Notts County are a professional English club currently playing in the Coca-Cola League 2. The club play their home games at Meadow Lane and possess adequate training facilities and an adequate youth setup. The club is affectionately known as The Magpies and retains a fierce rivalry with Nottingham Forest and Mansfield Town.
The club enjoyed probably their best spell of success during the 1890’s. Although now enduring an eleven year barren spell, having not won a competition since 1998, The Magpies still have a history of which they can be proud. Notts County won the FA Cup in 1894 and finished runners-up once, won the English 2nd tier in 1897, 1914 and 1923 and finished runners-up on two occasions. They finished runners-up in the English 3rd tier for the only time in 1973, and won the English 4th tier in 1971 and 1998 and finished runners-up once.

Sky Sports Breaking News – 5.31pm

Notts County chairman, Peter Trembling, has today confirmed that ex-England international Michael Henson will be the manager until the end of the season on a £975-per-week deal. The 33-year-old enjoyed a successful playing career until his career was ended by a horror tackle in 2004 by Roy Keane in a 4th round FA Cup tie against Manchester United. In his 10 year career, Henson played for Bury, Oldham, Preston, Burnley and finally Arsenal. He had planned to return to Bury before the end of his career but missed out on the opportunity due to his injury, Michael had been an Assistant Manager at York City before he took the position at Notts County.

In a statement released by Henson, he said “Notts County is a club on the rise and I hope to achieve promotion in the short time that I am here for. I have assessed the squad and have a wealth of targets in mind, I am looking to sign a handful of players as back up but I will be making some major signings, for example I will be looking to sign Michael Mifsud on a free transfer as well as bringing the highly rated Middlesborough full back, Joe Bennett to Meadow Lane. I have also been looking at an ex-Ajax star that has become available on the market and I will do anything to make sure he signs for me.”

Notts County seem to be aiming for glory this year after they boosted their squad by another four players in the past two days. The club has also signed Huddersfield’s Nathan Clarke, Halmstad’s Alexander Prent and Middlesbrough’s highly rated full back Joe Bennett. Bennett has been signed for a fee of £40k whilst 26-year-old Prent has been signed for a fee of £80k. Clarke’s fee is undisclosed but rumours are that the fee is around the £270k mark. All three signings are believed to be excited about the prospects of first team football; however Nathan Clarke has made himself heard about being made to leave Huddersfield, the club he spent 8 years at. Although Henson was unavailable for comment, the Notts County manager was believed to be extremely pleased at landing these signings.

Chairman Peter Trembling has today confirmed that Notts County have completed the triple signing of ex-Chelsea midfielder Joe Keenan, Rui Almeida Monteiro and Max Fuxberg. Keenan and Monterio have arrived on free transfers whilst Fuxberg has joined for a fee of £2k from Trelleborg. At the moment I don’t really want to type up all the friendly results but I will tell you them instead. I beat Ayr 5-1, Charlton 1-0, Norwich 2-1 and Southend 1-0. However, I lost to Sheffield United 3-1.

August Update
1st August 2009

To start off the month of August, Notts County started off with a tough pre-season friendly against Southend at Roots Hall. The game could have swung both ways but Notts County but a goal on 43 minutes by Joe Keenan sealing the win for The Magpies. Both teams had plenty of opportunities but they didn’t take them. Michael Henson said after the game, “The result was good for us but we could have made more use of the chances we had and we could have put the game to bed in the first half. Pre-season has been good so hopefully we can now push on with our promotion aim. I am also very pleased to announce that we now have Aston Villa as our parent club so that they now can send their youngsters on loan to us to gain first team experience. We will announce shortly if we can sort out any deal with them. Hucknall have also been confirmed as our feeder club so that we can send our youngsters to them as well.

Review of the Month
I am pleased with the team this month and the first result of the season was extremely pleasing. The Carling Cup First Round was also very pleasing as Oldham are in the league above us. We are currently top of League 2 with 15 points out of 15. The defeat against Portsmouth was disappointing but they were a lot stronger than us on the day so there was nothing we could do, it was also nice to see we took the lead against them.

Player of the Month
1st – Michael Mifsud (Notts County)
2nd – Alexander Prent (Notts County)
3rd – Dave Hibbert (Shrewsbury Town)

Manager Of The Month
1st – Michael Henson (Notts County)
2nd – Keith Hill (Rochdale)
3rd – Ronnie Moore (Rotherham United)

If your still in the transfer window sign Brian Hamalainen, quality left back. Try and get Dani Pacheco on loan as-well. Next season sign Jonjo Shelvey and Morgan Schneiderlin, Premier League quality players. Oh and good story so far and nice layout, good luck :)

I'll try and buy that Brian guy in the summer as the window is now shut, I also am trying to sign Ben Thatcher as cover for Joe Bennett. Thanks for the tips I will hopefully try and sign them in the summer as well.

Jesus, copyright everywhere with Harry's idea of Blood, Sweat & (then something different every time). :P

Good luck mate

If they haven't been snapped up by now, Rudolph (although i've always heard him called Rudi...) Skacel and Izzy Iriekpen are great free signings for league 2 sides.

How much have u spent so far in the window?
Nice story, will be following :)

Thanks for the tips but Skacel is at Slavia Prague and Iriekpen is at Bohemians :(

Nice story, will be following :)

At the moment, I've spent £400k but when Danny Simpson joins in January the total amount will be £1.5m

If your near the window or have enough money, try to buy Patrick Agyemang from QPR, he got me 30+ goals in League 2 and isn't doing too bad in League 1. He's about 375k-450k.
