Hi guys

Don't know if this is in the wrong place, but I was hoping if you guys could help

I normally download tactics but I've decided to have a go at making a tactic of my own but I'm struggling with certain areas of the process, I've looked at guides but I've not found what I'm looking for as of yet therefore I have a couple of question I was hoping you could answer for me.

player roles

do certain player roles work better in certain formation or does it come down to the individual player and if it is down to the individual how do i find out what their best role is.

player instructions

is there a guide that show what player instruction works better with each player role e.g if I use Rooney as a false 9 what instruction would work better with that role.

I hope that makes sense and I hope you can help me

Thanks guys

Regarding player roles, some fit better for shorter passing style, like treq, inside forwards, adv. play....it doesn't matter that much the formation, but it would be smart to pack the midfield for a possession tactic, for example...also, if you don't play a balanced formation that has a player in every part of midfield like 4-5-1 has, you should opt for more fluid philosophy. Roles are best set so that they cooperate with each other, and you can learn more about that at guidetofootballmanager.com. Alternatively, you may set a very fluid philosophy, so roles wont matter. Regarding player instructions, they are already set properly, and they will adapt to team instructions, so there is no need to meddle with those, unless there is something specific you want a player to do. Otherwise, they will act as their role is, combined with your other settings.

you're welcome....this isn't a very forgiving game, it actually punishes the player for every single mistake he makes, and sometimes, the players simply have a bad day, so you must do a lot, and invest much effort to get a constant string of results. Also, if you notice you setup something wrong, it would be best to start over, because if you keep changing your approach, players both lose confidence, and have difficulty adapting to new style, especially in the middle of the season. This extends even further if you trained them prefered moves for your style. You may try with and without tight marking for example, but you will notice the player still do it, even if you told them not not, because they are used to it. So if you screw up, start over.

i had a feeling that would be the case...starting over again if something went wrong......lol.

with the tactic i trying to make now i have changed multiple things, numerous times and up to now ive still got good results...but iam only in preseason against poor teams

Just a quick heads up: Your strategy determines much. For example, with less agressive strategies, players will attempt tackles less, your defensive players will pass the ball more direct, and your forwards shorter, tempo will be lower, width will be more narrow, and defensive line will be deeper and so on. Your defensive players will need to have more skill or be more technical, and your forwards will need to be creative. You would be smart not to set high tempo for a less agressive strategy, as it simply goes against it, for example. The opposite applies for more agressive strategies. And some team settings go hand in hand with each other. For example, if you play things more narrow, the less your crosses will have effect, and there is less need for roles that cross the ball. So instead of a winger, you should use an inside forward with support duty, as they don't do crosses, and perhaps no sidebacks. Setting your crosses to drill in case of narrow play may also help, especially if you don't use a striker that is good in the air. And of course, the opposite apply, if you play things wider, the greater the need for crosses and ability in the air as your wide players will be further away and more isolated and forced to cross. When you choose shorter passing it will also narrow down the width, so it will go hand in hand with a less agressive strategy. And of course, the more agressive the strategy, more direct you can play.
