FC Porto have today announced that Vitor Pereira will leave his role as First Team Manager at the club. After successfully winning the Liga ZON Sagres in his first year, Pereira will leave the club this summer - citing health complications as his reason for leaving. It is widely reported that the Porto hierarchy are hugely disappointed with the Portuguese manager's performance in his first year - although chairman Pinto da Costa has moved to quash claims of a falling out between the board and Pereira. Despite winning the domestic league in his first year, the 44-year-old manager led his team to frustrating performances in Europe through the Champions League and Europa League. The Portuguese domestic cup - the Taça de Portugal - was also hugely disheartening for Pereira and Porto; having been knocked out in the fourth round by eventual winners Academica. Fan favourite's Alvaro Pereira, Fredy Guarin and Hulk have already left Estadio do Dragao during the summer for a combined fee of just over £65 million - leaving the club without three key players.

In the wake of the decision, FC Porto moved quickly to appoint Pereira's replacement. Jason Mann, formerly of Jose Mourinho's coaching staff at Chelsea, Inter Milan and Real Madrid has been appointed as First Team Manager on a two-year contract. Despite having no managerial experience, Mann has proved countless times to be very tactically aware - with Mourinho taking the young Englishman - part Portuguese - with him to his three biggest clubs to date as a 'Tactical Advisor'. Despite the great friendship between the two, Mann has now taken his opportunity to be First Team Manager at a well-respected club; following in the footsteps of Andre Villas-Boas who famously left Mourinho's coaching staff to take charge of FC Porto - causing a falling out with "The Special One" who claimed Villas-Boas was a traitor. However, despite the past argument with Villas Boas, it is understood that Mourinho harbours no hate for Mann - with the former stating the two are still "great friends".

Chairman Pinto da Costa is said to be delighted with the capture of another of Mourinho's "disciple's". A
war chest of around £18 million has been promised to the Englishman - who takes over a side seeded 1st in the Champions League Group Stage. Huge pressure is already forming on the young manager - with a need for silverware engulfing Porto supporters. Youngsters James Rodriguez, Danilo and Alex Sandro are said to be key players for The Dragons this season; although Mann is yet to take a close look at the first team.

August

Transfers

Following Jason Mann's first team inspection, several key areas were highlighted for improvement. Despite recent club signing Jackson Martinez having a high level of ability, young manager Mann scoured high scouts' reports of several young strikers with the hope of adding two more attackers to his squad by the end of August. Sao Paulo striker Ademilson was soon heading for Estadio do Dragao - along with Chivas' Mexian striker Carlos Fierro. The two wonderkids signed at FC Porto for a combined fee of £10 million. Young defender Jores Okore was signed for £1.3 million from FC Nordsjaelland while Brazilian midfielder Adryan joined for a fee of £900,000 from Flamengo. On the final day of the transfer window, Argentinian midfielder Mario Bolatti joined Jason Mann's side on loan until the end of the season to add cover in midfield. A deal was also struck with Fluminense which will see midfield maestro Wellington Nem join Porto for a fee of £3.5 million in January. Three youngsters left the club in loan since Jason Mann's arrival: Toze, Kadu and Thibaut Vion joined Aves, Braga and Leixoes respectively.

Jason Mann enjoyed a great start to his career with FC Porto in August. The month began with a difficult
Supertaça fixture against last years domestic cup winners, Academica. A brace by Brazilian striker Ademilson on his debut ensured Porto won their first silverware under Englishman Jason Mann. Two games within three days of each other then followed as Porto visited English sides Burnley and Middlesbrough. A 0-0 bore draw at Turf Moor ensured Porto had saved all their goals for the game at the Riverside against the team from Northern England. Jackson Martinez grabbed a hat-trick in his first start under Jason Mann.

A weak Nacional da Madeira side visited Estadio do Dragao on the opening day of the domestic season and suffered a heavy loss to the giants. Five different goalscorers ensured an easy victory in Jason Mann's first every managerial league game. Last seasons 9th placed finishers Gil Vicente then hosted FC Porto and nearly earned all three points with a threatening display. However, the class of midfielder Adryan shone through as after opening the scoring; he also earned a penalty for fellow midfielder Joao Moutinho to give Jason Mann's side a 2-1 lead.

Champions League Group Stage Draw

Having been seeded 1st for the Champions League Group Stage, Jason Mann was surely hoping for a reasonable draw. Spanish giants Valencia were the first team to be drawn alongside Porto - followed by Dutch side Ajax and FC Porto's Jores Okore will face his former side as FC Nordsjaelland were the final team to be drawn in Group B. Valencia are sure to be Porto's biggest rivals to be group winners - although Dutch side Ajax will be no pushovers when it comes to qualification. Three fantastic teams will battle it out for the two available qualification; whilst Danish side FC Nordsjaelland will prove to be stern opposition as they are the group underdogs.

September promised to be a hard month for young manager Mann and his players - with fixtures against league contenders Sporting Lisbon and Braga being key to the domestic campaign; while a Champions League group game against Valencia ensured FC Porto would have no time for recovery in a frantic month. A fantastic 5-0 scoreline at home to Sporting Lisbon started FC Porto's month off in great style. A 2-1 away win was followed by an important Champions League group game against Valencia. A superb individual performance by young Brazilian midfielder Adryan guaranteed all three points against the Spanish giants. A visit to Braga just four days later threatened to stop FC Porto in their tracks - although a fantastic team performance ensured a 4-0 win for The Blue and Whites. To end the month, striker Jackson Martinez scored a fine goal in a disappointing draw with Olhanesnse.

October started with a trip to Holland to face giants Ajax at the Amsterdam Arena. A weakened team travelled as wingers James Rodriguez and Silvestre Valera were out injured for 3 months and a week respectively. Two second-half goals ensured FC Porto moved into a dominating position at the top of Group B in the Champions League. A 4-0 league win was then followed by a 5-2 victory in the domestic cup. FC Porto's dream season under Jason Mann continued through November and December. Champions League Final

View attachment 293970

Jason Mann's FC Porto managed to successfully overcome Spanish giants FC Barcelona in the Champions League Final at Wembley despite being underdogs. The game didn't start well for the Portuguese team as a skillful run by winger Alexis Sanchez split FC Porto's defense - before the Chilean winger back heeled for superb midfielder Iniesta to slot home within the first minute. Just seven minutes later, however, FC Barcelona gifted their opposition a way back into the match. An in-swinging free-kick from Brazilian midfielder Wellington Nem was bundled away by Victor Valdes - right into the path of winger James Rodriguez who had an easy finish to equalize for FC Porto. As half-time approached, Alexis Sanchez restored FC Barcelona's lead. Another skillful run allowed the winger to get on the score sheet himself this time as he slotted a shot under FC Porto goalkeeper Fabiano.

On the hour mark, FC Barcelona doubled their lead to 3-1. A fantastic effort by world superstar Lionel Messi left six players trailing as he broke away down the wing and slotted across for Alexis Sanchez to pass the ball into the net. As the FC Porto players began to tire; the game looked over and in the bag for the Spanish giants. However, Jason Mann's team had other ideas in mind. A 68th minute wonder-strike from midfielder Moutinho left Victor Valdes rooted and gave FC Porto hope as the score was now 3-2. As the 85th minute approached, FC Porto drew level. Some fantastic build up play on the wing by Danilo and Iturbe allowed the latter to cross to the un-marked Jackson Martinez who slotted home and leveled the game. Just three minutes later, the Portuguese team took the lead for the first time. Some fantastic one-touch football from midfielders James Rodriguez, Moutinho and Iturbe released striker Jackson Martinez into the box who knocked the ball home to make it 4-3 with four minutes remaining. Despite a late attack by FC Barcelona, Jason Mann's Portuguese Champions held on for a historic win at Wembley Stadium.

Taça de Portugal Final

View attachment 293972
As the season drew to a close, FC Porto rounded up a very successful season as they won their fifth piece of silverware under Jason Mann. In the 20th minute, FC Porto took the lead in the final of the Taça de Portugal. A cross was swung in by Brazilian midfielder Wellington Nem and striker Jackson Martinez rose highest to put FC Porto in the lead. Just ten minutes later, Benfica drew level. A sloppy free-kick was given away on the edge of FC Porto's box and Miguel Rosa hit a screamer to tie the scores at half-time.

As the second half started, FC Porto immediately re-took the lead. A cross in by winger James Rodriguez was headed home by centre half Otamendi who rose at the back post to head across goal and give FC Porto a 2-1 lead. As the game was coming to a close, FC Porto doubled their lead and made the score 3-1. A cross was knocked in by full-back Fucile and winger James Rodriguez volleyed home from 7 yards out to put the game to bed and ensure Jason Mann won everything he possibly could in his first year of his managerial career.

Jason Mann Resigns

View attachment 293974

Following the 3-1 win over rivals Benfica, Englishman Jason Mann has handed in his resignation after just one year in charge of FC Porto. It is reported that the young manager saw no need to stay in Portugal - after dominating all of the domestic competitions and winning the UEFA Champions League. Having managed 56 games, Mann won 50, drew 5 and lost 1 in all competitions leaving him with a win percentage of 89%. His side amazingly scored 180 goals and conceded just 47 - leaving him with a personal goal difference of +133.

Despite leaving the club, it is reported that their is no 'hate' between FC Porto and Jason Mann. The club have already issued a statement saying: "We wish Jason all the best for the future. A glorious season which will go down in history wouldn't have been possible without such a great manager. The door will always be open to our hero, Jason Mann."

Fatih Terim, Frank de Boer, Marco van Basten and Thomas Schaaf are the early favourite's to earn the FC Porto job - although many fans think it will be impossible for Jason Mann's successor to emulate his success. Up to now, it is not reported where Jason Mann will be headed next - or whether he even wants to continue on his managerial career.

Wow great story! I remember in FM10 having a great carrer with Porto. Had the likes of Falcao, Lloris, Bruno Alves, Hulk. Well done on th CL victory

July

Borussia Dortmund have today announced that former FC Porto manager Jason Mann will take charge of the club. Jurgen Klopp was sacked earlier this summer following a disappointing season as Dortmund finished second - 19 points behind winners Bayern Munich. The Black Yellows were knocked out of the German Cup in the Second Round by Bayer Leverkusen while the team also suffered a disappointing campaign within Europe - finishing bottom of their Champions League Group behind Arsenal, Lille and Braga with just three points.

Jason Mann, however, had a rather successful season. After being appointed as FC Porto manager this time last year, Mann led his team to win five different trophies: the Portuguese
Supertaça, the Portuguese League Cup, the Taça de Portugal, the Portuguese Premier League and the UEFA Champions League. Despite this, Mann has already warned Dortmund fans not to expect the same:

"Despite my excellent record last season with FC Porto, I wish to warn the Dortmund fans not to expect miracles. A 19 point gap was suffered last year from ourselves to Bayern and that cannot be instantly forgotten. Of course, I will do my best to raise the profile of the club once more but poor performances in all competitions last year mean the club aren't a European force this year. I hope the fans and board remain supportive of me and the team."

The team dramatically suffered last year as key-striker Robert Lewandowski was sold at the beginning of the season to English side Tottenham Hotspur for a fee of £22.5 million. Winger Marco Reus also suffered a long-term injury which ruled him out for much of the season; leaving Dortmund desperately short on key-players. However, Jason Mann has been promised around £12 million to strengthen his side for the challenges of the season ahead. Three pre-season friendlies have been organised against French side FC Metz, English team Sunderland and Belgian giants Genk.
