Barça sign Alexis Sánchez

FCBarcelona.cat
Udinese and FC Barcelona have reached an agreement on the transfer of Alexis Sanchez. The cost of the deal is 26 million Euros with added variables of 11.5 million.

The player is due in Barcelona this weekend. Medical tests and the signing of the contract, which is for five years, will take place on Monday.

The 22 year old Chilean player is coming to Barça from the Italian club Udinese, where he’s played for the last three seasons. Last season he was voted best player in Serie A, after scoring 12 goals in 31 games.

This summer (of 2011) he’s been playing in the Copa America for his country’s national team, who were eliminated in the quarter-finals by Venezuela. Alexis played a total of four games in which he scored 1 goal and where he was chosen MVP in two of the matches.

Dazzled in Italy

After his debut in the 2008/09 season with Udinese, where he played 95 games, the last two seasons have been the most prolific in terms of his play and goals. Last season he scored 12 goals, 4 of them in the same game, and has been sought by the best teams in the world. However, he has been strongly committed to playing for Barça.

I hope he fails.

Seriously though, Barcelona are just getting better and better and I fully expect Alexis to shine at the Nou Camp. If they manage to finally get Cecs after all this time, I fear they will be some what unstopable (even more so than what they are already).

I don't see where he will fit into the starting XI TBH. The front three of Messi, Villa and Pedro is near perfection, and I can see him being used as a 'supersub'. His pace and skill would be awful to face in the final 30 minutes of a game after facing Messi and co. Don't forget Affelay, who plays in the same position(s), unless one of the frontline is going to be sold........

Word is Pep is moving into an outright 3-4-3, can see Sanchez playing wide, or at the tip of the midfield diamond

The classic "we don't need him but we'll have him so no one else can" sort of thing Real Madrid used to do and like I do on fm some times.

This. It is the same as Cesc, they don't tactically need him, they just want him.

i guess we've done it in the past such as when we signed sheringham when we already had cole, yorke and solskjaer. but surely if, hypothetically, he went to a team like athletico madrid, he would get more game time so develop into a better player, i can't see him getting much of a chance at barca

They don't have the centrehalves for that, surely?
Mascherano Pique Puyol
Alves Iniesta Xavi Sanchez
Messi-Villa-Pedro
?

Busquets. In the 4-3-3, he dropped so deep, and the fullbacks got so far forwards it played like a 3-4-3. They could now play a 4-3-3, 3-4-3 flat,or 3-4-3 diamond

Meh, not so impressed with Busquets. Prefer Masch, though that's my biased towards that great guy...

That was so silly, he was only talking to him! He did kinda go a bit rambo after he got sent off, mind... But still an excellent destroyer. Him and Alonso were amazing together. Anyway, Barcelona...
Guess this means Affely will be moved on.

Jeez with Fabregas set to sign next Wednesday Barce have really added depth to their midfield/attack with Fab/Sanchez.

They mean business.

Think they might be forgetting CB in all this though...

Add up Soriano/Romeu/Barce B sales etc it will probably bring Barce in around 20 million euros towards the Fabregas transfer next Wednesday.

Interesting anyway, still think they need a CB...Hopefully Amorebieta but I'm not hopeful. More likely to be an older experienced CB.

There is sneaking rumour around Catalonia that Pep's plan is to sign Alex from Chelsea.
