When considering new players or how to get the best out of an existing one, does anybody go outside of their FM universe to scout the player in real life?

I never have before, but I just recommended the German winger Julian Brandt to someone and I linked to a YouTube video which, having watched it a few times, does quite accurately reflect the way he performed for me in FM16. Any player worth his salt has a Wikipedia page, too, these days, a full set of stats from WhoScored.com (which includes a list of his strengths and weaknesses; if it corresponds to what your FM scout is saying, then you know it's true) and for this particular player, there's a glowing write-up from FourFourTwo magazine.

We know what great depths the FM researchers go into to judge and rate players accurately, and we have all of this other info available to help us not only sign the best players available but also to play them in their best roles and positions.

This much information isn't available for every player and obviously not at all for regens, but I thought it might be useful to point this out to help people who might be struggling with FM. I can jump in and out of my game to go surf the internet while it's still loaded, but if you can't then maybe just make a note to look up a few players before you re-load your game next time. It's not cheating - these resources are available to managers in the real world, so why not you, too?!
