Southampton FC

Southampton FC are currently in the npower League 1 within the English leagues. Many fans are still agonising over the relegation from not only the Premierleague but the Championship aswell over recent years. It seems that the legacy Southampton was once firmly trying to build is now becoming nothing more but history as the clubs fortunes have diminished, there has certainly been more bad news than good news of late. Southampton have stayed strong however, they've battled to stay in exsistance avoiding liquidation and administration and prevailing that they also won the Johnstone's Paint Trophy in the 2009/2010 campaign. These are only a few highlights though that have had Saint's fans jumping for joy.

Rolling back the years, good times at the Dell

Those days of old at Southamptons popular previous ground The Dell seem so far away. In those days the fans would happily skip on through the turnstyles to watch their favourites play, in particular the clubs most loved character Matthew Le Tisser. The club seemed to know where it needed to be and what it needed to do in those days. Nowadays fans seem to trudge and slowly drag themselves to Saint Mary's stadium, which is actually a beautiful stadium... but that is where the compliments end, as once fans have taken their seats they enter into a 90minute rollarcoaster ride which has more twists and turns than a midsummer murders episode. This leaves Southampton as one of the most inconsistant sides in recent times. They can sometimes win a match by four goals one week but then lose by four the next week. The fans want something to change, the chairman and manager bicker and can't get along and at this rate southampton will plummit further down the leagues. Surely only a Saint could save them?

Thursday 1st July

Southampton have caused a stir in the papers this week as the South Coast club have once again decided to part company with another manager. Alan Pardew has muturally terminated his contract with the club as his relationship with the clubs board had dissolved. The clubs website explained that both Pardew and the chairman Nicola Cortese couldn't agree on which way the club should progress, the transfer budget and training routines for the squad. Pardew's only response was that himself and Cortese had "irreconcilable differences"

The fans were unhappy at losing yet another manager

Saturday 3rd July

Southampton Chairman Nicola Cortese has today sounded out potential suitors for the vacant managerial position at Southampton. The fans have stated that whoever does take charge should get to rule the roost over key aspects of the club, issues such as transfers in and out, training and player development should not be compromised due to conflicting opinions and that the chairman should give the new manager breathing space and time to setup a system in which they work well within. They also want the new manager to have total control over all major footballing aspects. Will Cortese oblige or carry on with his ever so dominating approach.

Cortese has a reputation for trying to control every aspect of the club

Wednesday 7th July 2010

Today Nicola Cortese has announced he will unveil Southampton's newest manager. The Saints fans haven't had too long to wait and will undoubtedly be excited to see who their clubs newest manager will be.

It wasn't long before people were rallying around and setting up for a press conference within Saint Mary's. Cortese sat down and gave a speech about how the club would act under the new manager and how he himself will try to stand back and let the new boss find his feet and give him sole responsibility of first team affairs.

After his speech Cortese stood up and applauded as the new man walked into the room.

Le Tissier is ready to bring glory back to Southampton

A shocked audience was stunned to see probably Southampton's biggest legend standing before them. Le Tissier gave a cheeky grin and then took his place beside Cortese. He addressed the audience which was packed with journalists from all over. He stated that he was looking foward to working at the club again and that he knew deep down that he would always return to the club he loves. He said that like many fans he too has found it a struggle to watch as the club has fallen from the Premierleague and then the Championship. He added that he will fight tooth and nail to instore pride and belief back into the squad and more importantly the fans. He spoke about his meeting with Cortese and that the chairman has assured him that he will be given full control over how he runs the club. He has identified transfer targets and spoken at length with the board about bringing players in.

"There is money available but myself and Nicola have agreed that we will not overspend if we don't have to, we will focus on loaning players in so that there will be more money in January and even next summer. The club has a healthy squad and I think it's strong enough to win the league so we will not be spending too much."

It has also been confirmed that Assistant Manager Andy Crosby will no longer serve the club and that Jason Dodd has been promoted to assistant manager. This should be another decision that will please the fans who are used to this dynamic duo working together.

Transfers

Matt Le Tissier has a wealth of targets in mind according to many media outlets, The Sun proclaims that Le Tissier will make an audacious bid to bring back Southampton favourite James Beattie while the BBC states that Le Tissier will try to lure Argentinian whizzkid Erik Lamela to the club.

Le Tissier has also persuaded the clubs board to find a parent club which they agreed to. Liverpool, Chelsea and Aston Villa agreed to a deal but it was Liverpool Southampton wanted to become their new parent club.

Clark's loan could spell the end for another player

Le Tissier has been at it again, this time going in for Aston Villa's Ciaran Clark. This transfer has started speculation that either Jose Fonte or Rahdi Jaidi maybe leaving the club. The Saints fans are impressed with this loan move but are now worrying what long term consequences it may have for the team.

£750k deal... Bargain?

Southampton have at last spent some money, bringing in the exciting prospect of Leigh Griffiths. Dundee who were reluctant to sell finally gave in after much negotiation from both clubs. The final figure of £750k was a large chunk of Southamptons transfer budget and everyone is hoping that Griffiths can live up to his price tag.

Arrived from parent club Liverpool

Le Tissier has also loaned in the exciting teenager Daniel Pacheco from parent club Liverpool. Liverpool were willing to let him go on loan so he could gain valuable first team experience. The Southampton fans seem overjoyed with this loan as Pacheco has a very healthy reputation.

Merino offers a wealth of experience

Carlos Merino has arrived at Southampton on a free transfer. He was originally on trial and after a successful period Le Tissier took the option to sign him on a permanent. He offers the club experience and will no doubt help out the younger players.

Pre-Season

Matt Le Tissier will be hoping to get a good pre-season under his belt. With a match against Southamptons feeder club Eastleigh on the cards and a pre-season tour of Ireland it will hopefully be a winning start to the campaign.

A fantastic tour of Ireland which saw Southampton beat each one of thier opponents. Shamrock Rovers provided the tastiest match which saw the Saints play some good football. Saints new signing Leigh Griffiths looks like a great capture for the south coast club and has worked well with fan favourite Rickie Lambert.

Southampton will look to win the league this year. With their talismanic manager guiding them most fans will hope that the team can form a formidable title bid and end the season lifting the trophy and more importantly gaining promotion. Matt Le Tissier has ensured the team goes into the campaign with the right frame of mind and will use the success of pre-season to inspire a great start to the season.

After an exciting month which will have undoubtedly had the Saints fans jumping out of their seats the club remain unbeaten. A particular highlight also was the demolishing of Sunderland in the League Cup Second Round. The lacklustre Premerleague team were easy prey for the League one team, leaving the Saints heading into the next round comfortably.

Michael Potts, Leigh Griffiths and Daniel Pacheco have all scored and the new signings have impressed all those involved with Southampton FC. Jordan Spence was left agonising over his first appearance in a red and white shirt as he saw a red card for a late lunge.
