i usually use this opposition instruction:
gk closing down always
dc closing down always
dr,dl closing down always , show onto weaker foot
dm closing down always
mc closing down always, show onto weaker foot
mr, ml tight marking, show onto weaker foot
amr,aml closing down show onto weaker foot
amc tight marking show onto weaker foot
st tight marking show onto weaker foot

do you agree with my opposition instructions? should i change something?

This is the one aspect of the game I am weakest. What should be done?

i do;
gk-Always Closing Down
rb/lb-Always Closing Down
cb- Always Closing Down, Hard Tackling (forces mistakes)
rm/lm-Always Closing Down
cm-Always Closing Down, Hard Tackling
amc-Always Closing Down, Hard Takling, Show onto weaker Foot
st-Always Closing Down, Hard Takling, Show onto weaker Foot

Try it out it seems to work for me and i haven't had any sendings off this season and im half way through. Hope this helps

I use 'Show opto weaker foot' and 'closing down always' for full backs and wingers who are very much one-footed (like Malouda, Giggs etc). For quality wingers like Ronaldo, Messi I find these wont work and so I use 'Tight marking always'. For DMC, I use 'closing down always' and 'hard tackling' and the same applies to DC's too. This is what I use.

I´m not sure about this, but everytime I set up OIs it seems that my players become unable to hold their tactical formation effectively.

st/aml/c/r - closing down always, hard tackling, show onto weaker foot
ml/c/r - closing down always, show onto weaker foot (unless the wingers have bad crossing, in which case i show them onto their outside feet so they cause less damage)
dm - closing down always

defenders - i have nothing for these guys so as to maintain the formation, although sometimes hard tackling is good to quickly win back the ball, and closing down can be useful if i need to win
gk - i dont ever put anything for the keeper unless he seems to be having too much time on the ball, then i close him down and show onto weaker foot to put him under pressure. but i only set this if it seems like a good decision midway through a match, not at the start

Opposition instructions sometimes can cause problems for you if you use them all like you are for every opposition player... This is because your formation at time might look like 2-2-1-3-2 or something, and that's when your in trouble and could easily concede.

thats where you have to be the manager though, sometimes it is more important to forsake your formation to maximise your chances of winning back the ball. other times it is not worth it and you have to make changes. i make lots of changes during matches to maximise the effectiveness of my team, and over time i have found that by setting everything i said for the attackers and midfielders and then watching how it works in the first half i can quite easily find the bst OI to use against the team i am playing

I guess it really depends. My tactics usually rely heavy on formation, so the OIs always seems to ruin them.

I totally agree with mikel. You need to change OI during the match depending on the opposition style of play and the level of performance of your players in the match. Also, pitch size and conditions call for certain changes in OI. I learnt it through experience. For eg, there is no point in closing down ctrl mids always on long pitches as the players will be way out of position and may lead the opposition players to find easy passes and your players also get tired and you may concede goals during the final stages.

Same for me

Especially with the marking and closing down OI's considering my tactics allow teams to attack with only my AM closing down often and zonal marking being enforced.

Weakerfoot is useful for dictating their play (through wings or centre) and hard/soft is useful if your against teams better than your own e.g. if the striker is stronger than your CB but has poor technical abilities then you would go soft on them

Tbh OI's are more applicable in lower league tactics because once you reach a high enough level then players stats will exceed the quota of what's required for their tactical usage e.g. going hard on a strong striker aat a higher level would be pointless as they still require a certain techqnical level to play at that level

I do OI's on a per case basis. I'll look at their individual players strengths and weakness's and how they pose a threat to me.

For instance, I'll close down slow players and almost always close down CBs and SBs, I also close down weak passers. I tight mark anyone who possesses a threat to create or score a goal and usually put them on weaker foot (this can sometimes open wingers to cut inside to goal so be careful).

Against 4-4-2's I try not to close down the MCs unless they are particurally weak because my 3 man back line will lose a lot of it's form and be open to through passes.

I'll also close down on CBs and SBs and occassionally my strikers can steal the ball and get a chance at goal. I also always tackle their CB/SB easy in an attempt to get PKs and FKs.

I have a great way of doing OI that works brilliantly,i totally ignore it and dont bother.

i depends on how you ply if it is an attacting tactic then close down high up pitch .. if it is a defensive tactic.. tigt marking normally .. work wonders..
