Has anyone had any luck in signing players to these type of contracts? e.g. a small basic wage per week but a high appearance fee.

I was interested in signing Jonny Woodgate on a free but I didn't think he'd play to much injured or not. He wanted 30k a week, so I thought 10k a week with a ridiculous 50K appearance fee would entice him (partly out of interest if it would work, partly because I didn't expect him to play more than 10 games in the year. He dropped his wage demands to 18k a week with 50k appearance fee which I was tempted with but decided against because that would still of put him as one of my top earners.

Anyone use this or have any tips?

In any of the games I have had Woodgate stays injury free and has played over 30 games a season.

I've never really had any luck with low wages and high bonuses, it's usually the high bonuses which catch me out

I have come close to doing this on a few occassions with certain players.. more so with players that do not generally want to join me, I offer them a semi basic wage with high goal bonuses for strikers and app for players!

I have never done it as it will on average cost me about the same if not more than offering him what he wants...

what I do do is I offer the player a large signing on bonus on a 5yr contract which normally allows a 20-35% wage drop on most occasions which end up saving me a lot of money over the 5 years...

Exactly what I do with wages as well.

I think this should be incorporated in FM12 because it seems to be becoming a bigger option to go for IRL.

this might sound stupid of me but how do you set "pay as you play" deals. I have offered renewal deals and set the wage to £1 and apperance money to £35 grand. The players that are being offered are starting to get old now there 33 to around 35 and they reject it all the time even when there earning around £45 grand a week and willing to take a pay cut. Is this because he is on £45 grand a week and not wanting to drop to £35 grand?

Can anybody help me?

Hm, interesting approaches from some people. If I was interested in signing someone like Woodgate or Hargreaves, I would only offer them a Year One Deal. That way, if they are injured all the time, I'm only stuck with them for a season and won't have to worry about off-loading them.

David De Gea gets a 80k appearance fee and a 200k clean sheet bonus along with his 170k wages for me :O

thats a bit insane...

80k x 40 appearances (thats average per season) = £3.2million
200k x 15 clean sheets (thats average per season) =£3 million
170k x 41 weeks (2 months off season, not sure if they get paid to be honest or how the weekely wage works) = £7.14 million

signing on bonus was probably around £4.5 million and agent fee was probably around £3.8 million on a 5 year deal = £15 million per year :)

With the older players, don't you include the extra year clause if they play a certain amount of games, I did that with Vierra (more to keep him happy)

He only conceded 12 goals all season and both signing on fees were 6m which is my maximum. Meh, still got a 140m transfer budget to spend! :D

Friend of mine in a network game gave Aguero a contract that's worth around 500k a game including bonuses. Safe to say I laughed a little.
