Pending free transfers when to approach?

I have a number of players that I am interested in acquiring whose contract run out in June 2012. When is the best time to approach them so that I don"t pay a transfer fee... when their contract officially expires or can I approach sooner?

if thay are in thesame country as u then u have to wait if not from jan but if there under 24 i think u may have to pay something but not too sure about that

You can approach foreign based players 6 months before their contract expires but you can only approach domestically based players a month before their contract expires. (Thats the rules in England anyway, not sure if its different for other countries)
