The Beast began his career at CSKA Moscow in 2009, making a total of 42 appearances and scoring 10 goals for the club, During this time he also spent time on loan at Sporting Lokeren OVI, making 12 appearances and scoring 8 goals.
In 2012/13 he joined Hannover 96, making 106 league appearances and scoring 62 goals.
In 2016/17 he joined C. At. Osasuna for £11M and made 45 league appearances and scored 21 goals.
In 2018 he joined Zenit St. Petersburg for £14.75M and made 24 league appearances and scored 11 goals.
The Beast joined current club FC Schalke 04 for £22.5M in 2020/21 and has currently made 102 league appearances and scored 73 goals for the club
