Just interested in how you try to get the best out of developing young players to reach their full potential.

I'm managing Liverpool now, of course we have great coaches and great facilities, but what I can't guarantee the youngsters is first team football.

I tend to loan players out as soon as they hit 17, and then for the next two years or so, or until they are good enough for the first team squad.

However there are a few potential issues with this:
  1. the club that is recieving the player will generally have basic facilities
  2. the player will not be playing within the tactical set-up that I use throughout my first team, reserve team and U18s
  3. there is no chance to have them tutored by a senior player
I really don't know where the balance lies, and would be delighted to hear your preferences.

Is it better to loan player out to League One and League Two clubs, rather than having them learning at home (under the guidance of World class staff in World class facilites)? Or is first team football, wherever it may be, invaluable?
