Hi guys

Just wondering what is the general idea with player duties and how many of each should be in a tactic given what mentality you use

cheers guys

Duties determine what your players are doing during the each phase of a match.

Defend: Looks to occupy positions that you could be vulnerable to.
Support: Looks to make an impact during the transitional phases and offers support to both attackers and defenders while not committing to either duty.
Attack: Players look to be in offensive positions and exploit weaknesses in the opposition.

How many of each.... No one can answer that. And anyone who does is either misinformed or ignorant of football tactics. How many of each duty depends entirely on what kind of style, formation, ect. It also depends on what kind of players you have, their PPMs, ect. There are too many variables to say exactly how m,any you need.

How to Play FM: A Twelve Step Guide

This is a good guide and you'll get a rough idea of how many duties to use. It's very possible to have more or less though.

As Brendn said, Defend duties stay back, Support duties support the ball carrier and Attack (generally) duties look to break forward. On Attack duties, the AP/A, Eng/A and T/A will behave a little different, but then they are playmakers so they will be more attracted to the ball.
