How important is the players suitability to play in a given role? Like, If I pop a guy into DCM and he's not not suitable for the role but hes's got he attributes to pull off the job well, does that have much of an impact? If it does, what kind of impact does it have on him?

Role suitability is an indicator only. It has zero worth in the ME. The attributes are what's important, so that's what determines how well he does what he's asked to do.

If you're talking about playing a player out of position (not role), a player will take a hit to Decisions, so every decision he makes. The more unfamiliar with the position, the more of a hit he'll take. Again though, players are fine if they have the attributes, but in the long term, they should be trained to Accomplished at minimum.
