Player wages and transfers

Hi. I've just finished my first season on FM2010 playing as Chelsea.

Heres my problem: When I try to offer a player I've just bought a new contract I can't afford their wages. I've tried adjuting their squad status and the wage/transfer budget but I still can't afford thier demands. I've also tried adjusting the contract terms (giving them a larger signing fee, minimum release etc) but this doesn't work either. I still have the transfer embargo but I found a way around it - add the player you want to a shortlist. Then whenever another team make a bid or loan offer you can click the 'Make offer' button in your inbox. Of course it's exploiting a bug but meh

Have you done the budget adjustment in the board room? you can take funds away from your transfer money and add more to your wage budget, meaning you can offer more wages to players.

Yeah I tried that and I also tried requesting increased wages from the board. The most annoying thing is that I'm well under the wage budget even if I have the slider set to the maximum transfer budget :/
