I understand that you'll back Chelsea here, but what would you do? You're an average defender, and get given a great contract at a decent side with the promise of first-team action. Then, the club you have arrived at drag your name through the dirt, because you haven't agreed to leave them? He put his head down and continued to work hard in training, in the hope of changing his fortunes - while he still collected a good wage, he wasn't going to leave for a pittance elsewhere, was he?
It wasn't Bogarde at fault, it was Chelsea. If the club hadn't tarnished him through the gutter press, and been sensible, he may well have agreed to move elsewhere. Given what happened to him, I think it is remarkable that he didn't come out and absolutely slate the club.
EDIT: Oh, and agree with the Alan Shearer shout. I cringe when he criticises strikers using their elbows on MOTD...seriously? He wasn't a dirty player though, he was a genuinely nasty player, as the Lennon incident proved.
