So, i have come up with a theory for why the lack of harmony problem can improve.

The obvious thing is, you have to be winning games, nobody likes to lose, this ultimately can cause the team to be upset/angry with you and each other.

I think that when players that feel they deserve to play games/a first team place, the squad is either too large or you need to possibly find a new home for them. Why?? Because if they are not getting games, I imagin this is about 5 games on probably more from their last appearance and you either just dont need them or they arent good enough for the team. So this would mean, sell some players!

This can be difficult, if you do like the player and want to keep hold of them, this can be a bad decision due to the lack of harmony being like a type of ''virus''. It will spread through the team and other players who feel they should be playing aswell, will make their point.

What i am going to be testing myself with my current squad, Newcastle united, i have recently been promoted as posted on a success story thread, i will be thinning out or how they say ''removing dead wood'' and seeing how the squad pan out. Yes, my squad after being promoted are still upset (they just arent satisfied).

Rate this how you feel and how it worked, i am happy for constructive criticism not insults!

Less is more so to speak ;)

I will report back how this worked etc for you guys, i hope this works for you as i hope it works for me!

Thanks

While in theory it make sense to remove the dead wood like that, at some point you need to have that depth to cover for possible major rashes of injury. Sure, you might think that you only need one backup to cover for each position, but if that player gets hurt, then you'll be in fairly dire straights. While I have about 3 or 4 players complaining about a lack of playing time right now, I need to keep them because the people they back up are injury prone. If I had players that wouldn't complain about playing time because they knew they weren't good enough for the first team, then why would I want them on my squad to fill in when someone gets injured for months?

Bottom line is, as long as the amount of people complaining isn't above like 4, don't worry about the complaints.

Your team talks can also have an affect on squad harmony, among other things. I was gonna make a John Terry joke then but I will leave it :P

Keeping a small enough squad to keep people happy whilst being big enough to cope with Injuries, plus a fair amount of rotation is key. I hate changing my starting XI and it is rare that I would get bad injuries so I can work with a squad of 22 with ease, and not doing too much in the transfer market also keeps players happy. I tried a Man City save on FM 09, one of my first saves and I bought 15 players in the first window, selling only 2 and the team didn't gel and a lot of them were unhappy at the competition, I finished the season in 9th and just about kept my job. So keeping players happy is a big thing

i use youth as backup. i have a very small first team squad in terms of senior players.

this does mean i am constantly buying promising youngsters, and many of them do not make the grade and are sold on. but id rather my arsene wenger style production line than 25 senior players with at least 5 unhappy at any one time.

players like billy jone and brek shea who can play in amny positions are gold dust when it comes to keeping a small squad

I also do this ;)

I like the versatile approach of players also, Billy Jones is a great for that!

How i look at it is, the squad status of their contract also makes a difference on whether they are happy or not. Back up players that i have never seem to be unhappy with me as long as you give them a couple of games a season in cups etc. If your persistently placing first team or key player contracted players on the bench or not in the match day squads they start to voice their concern.

This caused problems with me and my Blues "Birmingham" i have with my love of Super Kevin Phillips and him not really making the grade for my team, he has a First Team contract and to renew it he would only accept a First team status, i had to let him go :(. Heart Break as he is one of my favourite players, but for the squad to go forward, successful sacrifices of more experience players, or of players that should be in the first team plans, that you just don't favour, are what managers are made of!

A good balance of contracts, and a squad of 25 players or less with a reserves with younger back ups that can be kept happy easier i think is the best way to look at it, very much like Jake but not as "Arsene" shall we say ;)

I think this is what i was trying to say in an example. I think to keep a happy squad you have to have a small squad, but where you lack in numbers you flourish in mentality and youth's first team experience which if you have a nice training schedule will do wonders for a healthy squad.

Whilst having enough for back up is all well and good, these players want to be first team playing football, so with this they will be unhappy. Dont get me wrong... if you can get a nice rotation between players you feel can do the job, they will be happy. I found this difficult myself.

on my wigan save i had sun jihai, he isnt that great but he plays all across defence and all across midfield and he can do right winger, versatility is key, on my current man city save i am bringing in one player at a time, i bought no one in the first window, i just signed vargas, samuel and suarez, i will blend them in one at a time, thats why spurs and man city dont break into the top 4, they buy too many players, thats why mancini did the right thing only signing 2 players for the team, redknapp just oversigns which is why he skips from club to club

I loan the unhappy or neglected players out so even if my team do become plagued with injury, I can recall them. I do it with Middlesbrough because of all the godam strikers :)

That's a good idea then, it depends on the player though, there's some players who just don't want to be loaned etc. But that is another thing you can do. I am taking note of all the different tips to make a quick guide to satisfying your squad.

Keep em coming.

-----------------------------------------------------------update--------------------------------------------------------------

From my game, i just had all my players dislike me for about a month after fining Collocini for bad discipline. He has 16 yellows and 3 reds in a season. after that time the team all said i was right including him! haha.

Anyway, ''i tried thinning down'' and it kinda back fired, im not mid table after saying i would qualify for continental blah blah! So, now i kind of think that, if you do remove dead wood, make sure they are actually dead wood and not just someone you arent keen on, like i did. OOPS.

try to arrange friendlys against small teams to get confidence bk

And what do you do when players don't get on with each other?

My first choice and reserver centrebacks are at each other's throats, while my reserve attacking mid hates my assistant manager.
