Players unhappy I didnt sign more first team players.

I am unsure if I'm just doing something wrong but anyhow! Two of my long serving squad members told me they think the first team is thin and wanted new players in, I listened and even asked them for recomendations and signed 7(!) new players as first team/ backup members and still by the end of the transfer window they were unhappy i didnt sign new people.

Is it that I didnt put them all as first team players in the contracts or did i just sign too few?

It's not very intuitive but signing players on rotation, backup, ect will not count towards increasing the size of the first team.

The first team squad is made up of First team + Key Players.
Rotation contracts are people who are breaking into the first team but are not quite there yet.
Back ups are people who are not first team options.
Hot prospects are youth players who are considered future rotation options.
