Players want to leave even though I won the league.

Right here's my problem. I'm managing Ajax and I have a decent squad, some of these players are insanely good, regens from my own youth setup. Been fighting off bids from all the top european teams for about 2 years. Anyway, at the start of the season they come to me with the usual wanting to move to a bigger club, I fight them down with the usual "We'll win the league this season blah blah blah" which they agree to, if I don't deliver then they'll request a transfer.

Ending the season and we win the league by a large margin, the day after we win the league about half my team request a transfer because I haven't improved the clubs standing, even though I won the league and we're in the last 16 of the CL. Is there any work around to this? or do I just have to accept that I'm going to lose half of my first team?

Unfortunately if you can't keep fighting off world class clubs forever! Happened to me when I was managing Feyenoord... In order to keep them you need to increase your clubs reputation by winning continental trophies - ie Europa League or Champions League. Offer long, lucrative contracts when your youngsters sign pro! Good luck

Makes sense I suppose, a club such as Ajax will always struggle to hold onto the world class dutch players they produce, I've lost one or two promising players per season, but suddenly half my team wants to leave... feels like the save will be dead.

What annoys me the most is that I accomplished what the players wanted, for us to win the league, yet that's not good enough for them. Pain in the ***!

I know, kind of ruins the save like but best thing to do is invest that money into enhancing the first team and aim for that inclusive ECL trophy! Keep progressing the youth and maybe one day you'll have a club that courts other youngsters away never mind produces them!

The same thing has happened to me every season with multiple players on my story. I promise them the league, we win it, but they are not satisfied and their morale drops. Of my 6 seasons, they have only get ****** once, at the end of the 6th season, the day after we won the league.

I now know what the problem is.

It's not whether or not you win the league, it's your change in club reputation over that period. Win the league=should enhance reputation (at least in Holland it will as the other teams don't go on to win European trophies). jrsadler is right, your problem is that you didn't go far enough in Europe to gain enough reputation.

All is not lost (provided their contract isn't running out in under 6 months), DO NOT SELL them if you can't get a replacement/not your philosophy ect. Play them even if their morale is abysmal. After a while they'll be happy again, then get them to sign a long term contract so they don't jump ship for free next season when it happens all over again.

If you're not signing players, use that money on player contracts. That'll keep their mouth shut

Hope that helps

The same happened to me a couple days ago while managing FC Twente. Dusan Tadic and Felipe Gutierrez both wanted to leave and I promised we would win the league and we did in a final day decider vs Ajax. Right after the end of season meeting they asked to leave but I rejected the request. I was offered the Monaco job a little after though so I didn't get to see how it would have played out.

Yeah, happened to me as well with Feijenoord, managing to win the League and Cup three years in a row, but still losing core players each season because of either not getting through the group phase, or getting knocked out a round later. So either I had to sell my best players or watch them walk out on a free.

It's frustrating but realistic.

I have had the same issue before it was confirmed as a bug way back last year. In the end you kept your promise and the reaction you get from your players does not make sense. I hold off other teams from getting my regens by doing the same as you. Report that issue to SI

i also faced similar problem with my Man Utd team. I promised winning EPL title. I was knocked out in CL in the round of 16. I won EPL by a good margin and next day 3 players requested transfer that the standing was not good enough. I only promised EPL title and CL performances should not be counted for the same. Fortunately, they have taken back their transfer request and the team is doing well again.

Fully agree with you on that, you promised EPL success and you gave them that. CL has nothing to do with it if not chosen

Thanks for all the responses. Think I'll try as some have suggested on refusing to sell & keep tying them down with long contracts.
Seems like league reputation is the problem/cause of this. I only won the Europa league last season and only this season (2017-2018) I've actually progressed into the CL knockout rounds, kept getting bad draws + players not good enough.

Doesn't help that all the other dutch teams that do make europe seem to do utter pants.
