It seems I was not the only who couldn't that found himself unable to join a nonsteam game with steam and hamachi.
So even if the solution is veeery easy, I'll leave it here in thread with title easy to find for anyone who might experience the problem in the future.
It's as simple as, before starting the game, go to Steam, there in the menu to Files->Go offline (or disconnect from internet). Steam then will restart. Then you can start the game and go normally with hamachi as per the instructions located under the FM09 subforum.
