End Of Season - May 2016

Plymouth Argyle Squad In Order Of Apps

View attachment 395615

Top Goalscorer - Jon Stead - 24 Goals

View attachment 395612

Stead had an awesome debut season for us and despite my rotation of the strikers still managed 24 goals with 23 of them coming in the league.

Player of the Year - Luke Young

View attachment 395608

He had another amazing season for us with 18 assists and 13 goals and is really starting to mature into a brilliant player and will take the Championship by storm next season.

Young Player of the Year - Ben Purrington

View attachment 395607

I see Purrington as my very own Gareth Bale as he has slowly moved forward from a left back to ML and is often seen sliding past players with dizzying runs.

Season Expectations

View attachment 395342

We finally get a nice bit of wage budget but practically every player in our squad now wants a double their money contract.
So we are relegation favourites which is not too surprising but i thought we would be touted above the other 2 promoted sides as we won League 1, The aim for this season has got to be 1 place out of the relegation zone.

Players Out

So the only player who really played any part in the last couple of seasons who left was Andy Johnson but it wasnt through lack of trying! Some players i think im going to have to literally give away or terminate contracts im glad i never let them sign more than a 2 year deal so its never a big hit if we terminate deals.

Players In

So i was reluctant to take that big leap in the wages, My highest wages was around ?7k a week and that has jumped to ?13k a week but i couldnt bring myself to bring in the likes of Charlie Adam, Darron Gibson or Younes Kaboul do to their wages pushing 20k a week.
I tried to go for more of a youthful approach in my signings, players with sell on values who are only going to get better rather than decline with age as i think we will be spending a good 3 or 4 seasons in the Championship.

So in total 9 players came into the side without spending a penny and here are my favourite 3 to look out for in the new season.

Joao Rodriguez - ST - Loan

View attachment 395341

So parent club Chelsea have dropped him off to us and he looks like a decent player for the Championship after we struggled to get our first two choice strikers with Billy Sharp joining Bolton and a youngster called Perez from Argentina not able to get a work permit.

Joel Castro Pereria - GK - Free

View attachment 395340

The young Man Utd academy product could become a Premier League level GK so i plan on making him Number 1 now with other GK Billy O'Brien wanted by numerous Premier League clubs

Ryan Hall - MRL - Free

View attachment 395339

To sign him on free and be worth over ?1Million straight away is brillaint hes only the 3rd player in the whole Plymouth squad to be valued at over ?1 Million after Eastmond and Young and should run riot down one side of the wing.

Some huge teams in the Championship! Everton, Sunderland, Newcastle and West Ham are going to be unstoppable in this league, Obviously they couldnt have been that good to get relegated.
Everton and Newcastle have decent sides still but there almost unrecognisable as team wise in only 3 seasons.

August Fixtures

View attachment 395327

Well welcome to life in the Championship! Only a mere 3 points from our opening 5 league games with 3 draws and 2 losses and we havent even faced any of the big teams yet. It was a different story in the Cup as we beat League 2 Luton before smashing 3 past Premier League side Southampton who underestimated us and put out a second string.

League Table

View attachment 395326

Currently down in 20th where i expect and hope to finish this season just the right side of the relegation zone.

Papiss Cisse is at Crystal Palace now as he endured back to back relegations first with Newcastle and then Crystal Palace but he is taking the Championship by storm.

September Fixtures

View attachment 395322

Yes a Jon Stead brace gets us our first win in the Championship against Reading as we then manage to grab a late draw thanks to on loan striker Rodriguez getting a goal in injury time.
Middlesbrough brought us back down to earth with a thud smashing 4 goals past us but we soon forgot about that as we beat last years Promotion rivals Rotherham 3-0 in the cup.
We ended the month with a bad loss to Doncaster but the West Ham draw was a hard fought and a well deserved point.

League Table

View attachment 395321

Despite grabbing our first league win we end the month in the relegation zone with the usual suspects topping the table. It still very early days though a win in the right place could easily move you up several places.

Player Stats

View attachment 395320

So the only player doing anything here is Luke Young running around a lot and Grainger has picked up a lot of yellow cards.

Unlucky so far, but I reckon you can go up a few places in the week or so

Some massive teams at the top of the Championship, it's gonna be tough but hopefully you can stay up!

Well after September i took most of Sunday off to play the At Madrid pass the parcel save and shamelessly stole the Shots Galore tactic we have been using there and it breathed fresh air into the side as we won 4 out of 5 league games with our only loss coming in the cup.
Hourihane, Hall and Stead were all on fire this month with our most impressive win the 2-0 win against Everton.

Well it started so well as Mooney scored a brace in our first two games to win important matches against Sunderland and Cardiff but we then only scraped a draw against Rotherham before getting thrashed by Wolves and Birmingham.
Mooney was in fine form filling in for Jon Stead scoring 6 goals in 5 games.

Up into 13th now in between relegation and the play offs next month will be make or break for the season.

Steering well out of relegation, fancy sending me that tactic or linking me to it as thats the formation I am playing at the moment.

A torrid month as we have bore draws either side of a 3 game losing streak. 2 points out of 15 and we are plummeting yet again down the league and the tactic has suddenly deserted us.

League Table

View attachment 395014

It looks better from afar than close up as were still up in 15th but only 1 point off the relegation zone and in our current form and lack of money available in the up and coming transfer window im more than a little worried.

So i let go of a lot of deadwood and some of my own recent dodgy signings in Holt, Fryatt, Coulibay, Berry and Chambers all leaving after taking small pay offs but i only managed to bring one player in on loan in response to all the outgoings.

Former Man City academy player Nimely is the only player to join the club on loan for the rest of the season.

Its not looking good as Newcastle comfortably beat us and then Nott Forest knock us out of the FA Cup before we win our only game of the month against Leeds thanks to goals from a couple of our defenders.
We then lost the last two games of the month terribly including Reading smashing 6 goals past us and our form at an all time low and another tactic change needed.

League Table

View attachment 394988

So were back down into the relegation zone but we do have a game in hand on a lot of the teams down there with us and an unlikely win woud rocket us right back up the table.

Theres so little in it at the moment i can see it going to final day of the season as if we win even just one game we move up like 6 places then a bad couple of losses and its right back down here.

Unlucky at the moment, but I reckon you won't get relegated.

So the revival is on! Back to the 4-4-2 with the DMC's, Berra scores a late own goal for us to start our march up the table with a win over Middlesbrough. We then manage an impressive 2-1 victory over Burnley with our two DMC' s scoring wonder goals to pick up another important win.
We come crashing back down to earth with a 1-0 loss to Doncaster but more than make up for that with a 4-2 win over West Ham with Nimely getting his first couple of goals for the club.
We ended the month on a really bad note as Ipswich who havent even been doing that well smashed 5 goals past us.

League Table

View attachment 394470

Yes, up in 18th and 5 points clear of the drop zone but that could all easily change with 12 more games to go it all depends on the mood of the squad and whether our form plummets again or not.

Only the one win in 4 this month but sometimes it can be misleading with the fixtures you get clumped together, Everton and Sunderland are the top two teams in the Championship at the moment and Leicester are good side too. Nimely did manage to score the winner in a 2-1 victory over Derby in our only points of the month.

League Table

So were right back down into the relegation battle only a couple of places and 3 points off the relegation zone but we do have a game in hand. I will post the last 8 games in two parts as we try to starve off relegation.
