Preferred moves - player wont change

I got this midfielder regen with great creativity and technique. Problem is, that im playing Barca, and im using a fast short passing game, but hes only preferred move is 'attempting long direct passes', and he refuses to change, because he doesn't believe that it will improve his game...
So, what do i do about this - how do i convince him to change?

How old is he? Older players dont like change.

Also how long have you been at the club? and are you one of the best in the world? he might consider it if your a club legend or a World Class Manager (the games definition, not your own)

I'm barca, worldclass manager, and he's 20 years old - I'm his favourite staff person :/

he's just a stubborn player, keep asking him till he changes his mind, or get rid of him.
