Problem Installing and Running the Game in Windows 7

Any help on this one would be hugely appreciated. I've just bought a new laptop (massively exceeds the system requirements for the game, so no problems there) that runs Windows 7 and this is what has happened:

1. I installed the game through the DVD installation option, NOT using Steam
2. I updated to the 10.3 patch
3. Whenever I try to run the game I am told that the programme is "unable to find some essential data", and it doesn't run.

Here's what I've tried:

1. Tinkering with the compatibility settings (running it as an administrator or not, and running with XP compatibility or not)
2. Reinstalling twice
3. Installing latest Direct X

And no joy at all. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to get this working? I've seen people having problems with this same error message in Steam, but as someone who hasn't gone for the digital download option I'd be grateful for any help.

try useing steam,i have got windows 7 and i've had no problems running it

Sorted it now, thanks. It had defaulted to a directory called "Program Files (x86)". Once I reinstalled it to boring old regular Program Files then all was fine.
