Problem with the Striker

Hey guys,

Am playin as Schalke. Have completed almost 2 seasons with them. But the problem I find is that my strikers hardly contribute(Huntelaar/Werner). Their ratings are consistently 5.5 to 6.5 with an odd 8+ in one or two games.

The tactic I use is 4-1-2-2-1.

Ter-stegen, Peruzzi(rb), howedes, Big Papa, Fuchs(lb), bender(regista) Goretzka(ap), Neustader(bwm), Candreva(Winger right),
Draxler(IF left), Huntelaar/ Werner(AF).

Instructions used only for the team:
Work ball into box, Play into space, Play out of defence, Hassle opponents, Use tight marking, Higher Tempo, Be more expressive and Roam from positions.

My keeper distributes to defenders.

Mentality: ATTACKING.
Fluidity : FLUID.


Please let me know what to change to get the maximum out of my strikers.

First of all, how many goals scored Huntelaar in first season and how many assists?
Second, Huntelaar have Work Rate too low. You can raise it by discipline player for poor performance when his rating is bellow 6.1
Third, Higher Tempo doesn't fit well with Be more expressive. When you play fast not always you can be imaginative.
Fourth, looking at Huntelaar's preferred moves, I suggest to play him as target man.
Fifth, I would use these instructions for him: dribble less, shoot more often, roam from position.

I don't know who Werner is. I assume is Timo Werner. I would use him as poacher with these instructions: move into channels, shoot more often, dribble less.

i would use rigid fluidity as you have 4 specialist role selected, regista, ball winning midfielder, advanced play maker and complete wingbacks are all specialist roles so a rigid system makes them do the job of the role, with a fluid system they will be deviating from their role.

if you want to play fluid either switch the roles to Defensive midfielder support/defend, 1 central midfielder defend and 1 central midfield attack/automatic or a box to box and for your complete wingbacks switch the more attacking 1 to wingback attack and the other to fullback support this seems to work for my bilbao team as the fullback support will link with the midfield offering a passing option and the attacking wingback will bomb down the wing on the outside offering an overlap and crossing/through ball option, i play my attacking wingback behind a support winger and it works wonders.

as for your striker without an AMC behind him and with no midfielder with an attack duty he is being marked out the game and cut off, so either play an AMC or if you want to keep the same shape a CM attack/box to box depending on how attacking you want him to be if going for CM attack use get further forward and roam from position, dribble more and shoot more are optional depending on how you want him to play, or give the striker a support duty so he drops deeper and links with the midfield so either a DLF support/attack (as he is deep attack duty should be ok) false 9, CF support or TM support.

in my bilbao game 1 of my tactics is a 433/451 with control rigid then a halfback in the dm role as he drops to make 3 at the back which is very handy then the two centre midfielders 1 is a DLP support and the other is either a box to box or CM attack depending on they player and they raid forward enough to offer support to the striker and chip in with the odd goal, the striker is either a TM support or if i play muniain then a false 9 he then links with the midfield and isnt isolated although the TM support tends to do better in my tactic as its beilsa-esque and using direct passing, but if your using shorter passing a false 9 should be ok

Hi Guys,

Thanks a ton for helping out. Yes. The problem was that the striker was getting isolated and Draxler seems to be shootin all the time. I have changed the AP in midfield to Attack and the other midfielder to a DLP. The regista has been changed to an Anchor man. Now, the stiker is gettin involved a lot more. Also, had to resrict Draxler from shooting too often.

cool i had the same problem with iker muniain as an inside forward with bilbao always shooting so i changed him to support and told him to shoot less and dribble more seems to be working as now he runs closer to goal before shooting and seems to pass it alot more now instead of just putting it into row z each time

Using Tata Martino's tactic now(please search in tactics if you have not come across it any time before) .. Works like a charm. Hard to use Huntelaar as a FALSE NINE though. Bought Gotze for 40M pounds. What say, guys? A good choice for a False Nine?

Not too good Long shots but maybe any other False 9's would've been out of question (Rooney, Messi). Good purchase I'd reckon. It's sad he doesn't want to join EPL :/

Lol, yeah. He doesn't want to go out of Germany . Ironic he joined Schalke though being a Dortmund fan ..............
