Hello everyone, i am not new here, i have been following the forum for a while, i am just the quiet user and i don't post much. Now to get to the point.
I am currently playing a game with my local team of KF Tirana, Albanian Superleague team which is the most successful teams in Albanian history having won 24 league titles etc etc. Last years have been hard for them, with other teams like their arch rivals of Dinamo or Vllaznia getting the glory so i decided to try and get them back on their feet and maybe achieve something that Albanian teams have been dreaming for a long team, the European Qualifications.
Either way, in my first year as a manager i get lucky with a couple of really good free agents. They finished 3rd last season so i can go in the Euro Cup Qualifying phase but i get destroyed by AZ. (unlucky draw). I finish the first season 2nd to Vllaznia (2 points away, bastards wouldnt lose a single game). Anyway, 2nd season starts, i get a new contract, new signings which really took my team into a new level, and gave me the surprised entrance to the Euro Cups with the toughest team being Atletico Bilbao which i managed to get through by a 0-0 draw at home and a 1-1 draw away. So i get a legendary qualification to the Euro Cup and i got Chelsea, M. Haifa and Standard in my group. Now i knew i was going to destroyed but i still was happy to participate. I finished last in my group, with 4 points, managed to get a 0-0 with M.Haifa at home and a 2-0 win to Standard which was an epic result for us, but Chelsea destroyed me 4-0 both times. By loses like that the morale of my players completely fell and they started to complain. As a result my domestic results were starting to suffer, having gone unbeaten until december up to that point i got 3 defeats and 2 draws in 2 months, to lesser teams.
Now i ask, is it actually good to aim for those unneeded qualifications to the major cups or does it only hurt ur team in the long run? I know that economically they help a lot, but in terms of confidence they destroyed my perfect season.
