Well in my first season I signed a youngster called Fabio Coentrao from Rio Ave for £50k. He plays on either wing and you may be able to get him cheaper. Get Vecchio as well and you should have enough squad there. Vieri came to me in the January for £5k and did really well with Bothroyd.
When I went up I signed Adrian from Deportivo (£1.5m), Billy Jones from Crewe (£1.6m), Sisi from Valencia (free), Oscar from Zaragoza (£1.1m) and loaned Sinama-Pongolle.
Tactics-wise I just used whatever tactics suited my players at the time. Make sure to instruct Vecchio to take long shots. Pack the goalmouth at corners, put Vecchio on the edge of the box and play your corners to him. He'll score loads.
And hire plenty of decent coaches too, ignore how many coaches the board recommend.

thanks for the tips, i will try that. did you play clapham or mulgrew

Mulgrew. His stats do rise quite quickly. Heres the team I played most (if I can remember rightly)

Murray

McNamara/Little
Breen
Craddock/Gyepes
Mulgrew/Clapham

Guilherme
Davies/Potter
Olofinjana/Ricketts
Coentrao

Bothroyd
Johnson/Vieri

ok thanks i got vecchio, is there a way to sign players, but not have a work permit for them. cos i have been told its possible

Apparently according to other posts on here you can, but Ive never been able to.

I dont know how you do that. I have 2 feeder clubs but still cant sign players who cant get a work permit.

Probably not. I kept him as cover in the Prem. Let him go on a free in the end though

what happens with the work permit thing is this. On my game with man utd, i signed a young turkish goalkeeper, however i did not recieve a work permit on first or second time, but on the second time it will come up with "sign player" or whatever comes up, cant remember, and he will go into your team. But he will have "WP" by his name and that obv shows he needs a work permit. When he is in your team you can send him to your feeder clubs or keep him in first team. But he wont be eligible to play games.

Ive repeatedly offered for certain players (Millan, Cardenas etc) but Ive never had this happen even though Ive got 2 feeder clubs.

I have signed Sidnei he didn't get a work permit but he wont got to my feeder club. Any ideas what i can do.

Have Newcastle being taken over in anybodies game yet?

Im playing as the toon at the mo and im seriously poor - however Gregors thread did help quite a bit, but im lookin to get Burdisso and Bridge in my 2nd season

Newcastle did get taken over in my game after theyd been relegated. I managed to nick Taylor off them. Funnily enough, theyd signed Wayne Bridge as well. They also got relegated on a mates game. Must be a common occurance on 07.

on my chester save newcastle got relagated along with aston villa

Villa are **** with noone decent to nick though. Except maybe their manager. But then you'd be out of a job.....

At last Ive managed to sign Nicolas Millan without a WP. Hes got to go to one of my feeder clubs. This has only happened since I got 7.0.1 so maybe a bug in the game has stopped certain people being able to sign these players.

After I appealed against his application, then when it normally says 'transfer cancelled as work permit turned down', it said this....
