Austrian energy drinks firm Red Bull GmbH have completed the takeover of Leeds United.

Rumours of Red Bull making a bid for the club first surfaced earlier this year but Sky Sources can confirm that the company has completed a deal worth an estimated forty million pounds. The deal will see Red Bull continuing the steady progression of their sports arm, with Leeds United being the fourth football team taken over by the energy drinks manufacturer since 2006.

More to follow.

Germany's most capped player ever, Lothar Matthaus, has been appointed Leeds United manager following the departure of Brian McDermott. McDermott himself only joined Leeds in April and is said to be upset about having such a short stay at Elland Road. The appointment is the first of what is expected to be many changes at the club since the arrival of new owners Red Bull. Previously Matthaus has managed the likes of FK Partizan, Atletico Paranaense as well as Red Bull's Austrian franchise, Red Bull Salzburg. The former Ballon d'Or winner is set to begin his first managerial position since 2011 and is due to meet up with his team tomorrow morning.

Despite many objections from fans, new owners Red Bull have proposed a complete rebrand of Leeds United Football Club.

The proposed rebrand will see the club renamed 'Red Bull Leeds United' and will see the club flaunt a Red Bull uniformed look, with a crest and kit matching Red Bull's other teams; New York, Salzburg, Brasil and Leipzig. It is expected that protests against the rebrand will occur over the coming weeks, although such protests had no affect regarding Red Bull's other franchises.

As well as the club's crest and kits being amended, it is believed that Elland Road is to be renamed as 'Red Bull Elland Road Stadium', another prospective change that is sure to anger fans. Of course such a change may only be completed if Red Bull finalise the purchase of Elland Road from current owner Jacob Adler, who purchased the stadium from the club in 2004.

In other Leeds United news, new manager Lothar Matthaus is set to engage the press in his first press conference tomorrow afternoon.

We're heading live to Lothar Matthaus' first press conference as Leeds United manager.

Journalist:

Welcome to England Lothar, I'd like to ask you what are your objectives for the season?

Lothar Matthaus:

Our objective is to be promoted to the Premier League, that is our only objective and one that I am positive we will achieve.

Journalist:

Many fans are worried that the recent acquisition of their club will be detrimental to its history, we've seen in the past that Red Bull like to 'wipe out' a club's history and start fresh. Is this the case for Leeds and what long-term plan do Red Bull have for the club?

Lothar Matthaus:

I think with a club of Leeds stature it would be impossible to simply create a clean slate. The new owners have great respect for the history of this club but we are also focused on creating a positive future. By combining the Red Bull brand with the Leeds United history, we hope to push on and establish Leeds United as a powerful force within English football once again. The plan for the club is to achieve a Champions League position within the next 5 years, to achieve a position at the pinnacle of world football. There is no purpose in aiming for anywhere but the top.

Journalist:

Following on from your last answer, what are the owners plans in regards to financial backing, to achieve the goals you have just stated it will surely take some serious money?

Lothar Matthaus:

My personal opinion is that you play football with your feet and not with your wallet. When you get on the pitch it is 11 men versus 11 men, you know, we play with a ball not a chequebook. With that said, of course we must evaluate the team and amend where we feel is most essential if we are to achieve our targets. There are more than sufficient funds to do this, if I see a player I believe will improve the squad then we will look at how possible it is to bring that player to the club.

Journalist:

On a different note to the last question, how do you feel your experience as a player will influence the way your team plays?

Lothar Matthaus:

I want to win. That is my drive, I want to win every game that we play. If this means we go out and dominate possession then so be it, if it means we must hold back and play in a different style then we will do that. I love to watch the game as do we all but my main focus is to gain points. I am not afraid to defend nor am I afraid to attack.

Journalist:

Will we see any changes in the set-up behind the scenes, with scouts and coaching staff?

Lothar Matthaus:

Almost certainly. We are currently pressing on with the matter and hope to collate our team before the pre-season begins.

Journalist:

There are rumours circulating regarding David Gill, the ex-Manchester United chief executive, and him potentially gaining a place amongst the board at the club. Can you speak on this matter?

Lothar Matthaus:

Yes, David is here, he is here to help us achieve our goals. I cannot comment any further but yes he is now a member of the club.

Journalist:

Last question Lothar, are there any players on your radar already? We've heard murmurs that Red Bull are arranging for Thierry Henry to join the club?

Lothar Matthaus:

I will not talk about individuals as it is disrespectful to their rightful clubs. Henry yes, he is a fantastic player, I have always believed this but I can comment on him. There are a number of players on my mind, but until we have evaluated the team then we will not make any moves.

It is thought that ex-Manchester United chief executive David Gill will be the main man pulling strings at Leeds United for Red Bull, with Garry Cook - previously of Manchester City - hired as Gill's right hand man. Red Bull are said to believe that the pair will be able to guide the club in the right direction, with a vast amount of experience at the top end of world football.

Rumours are also circulating that Eric Cantona, a former Leeds United player himself, will be joining the club in a directors position within the coming days.

Excellent story! Really unrealistic but I'm loving this! Kick ***!

With Cantona as a Director and David Gill joining the club have you done that on FM or just for the purpose of writing the story?

Yep they are part of the club now in FM :)

I'd like to involve people in this career - recommended signings and such. Who can take us to the Premier League?

ryan gauld & billy mckay. - mckay is on form in my save for premiership side Ipswich.

Valon Berisha. Won't cost THAT much at the start of the game. Natural AMC but can play in any of the midfield positions. Doing really well for my Stuttgart team in 2017 right now.

Great storyline too! Will be following along for sure!

Hey guys hopefully post an update later today with the beginning of the career!

Looking forwards to the update and the career, has a great premise. Hopefully you can bring Leeds back into the spotlight :)

Good luck!

Sky Sports News sources in Scotland have confirmed that Billy McKay will join Leeds later today after completing a medical. The deal will see the 24-year-old Northern Ireland International leave Inverness for a figure believed to be worth up to ?3.1m. McKay racked up an impressive 27 goals in 45 appearances last season and will be hoping to continue his deadly form in the Sky Bet Championship.

Leeds have also completed the signing of David Coles, formerly of West Ham United and Portsmouth, who has left his position at Al Jazira to take up the assistant manager role recently left vacant at the club. Coles has a wealth of experience within the game, although predominantly as a goalkeeping coach, and joins a flurry of back room staff signings recently made under new boss Lothar Matthaus.

Good signing for both squad and staff, both should have a positive influence on the side and hopefully aid you in your push for promotion :) Look forwards to seeing more!
