'Welcome, It's amazing to finally meet you' shaking his hand excitingly.

'Well, we met once before, back in 96...ahh never mind' he finally lets go.

As the manager of the community centre and the Gateshead Cobra's staff welcomed him in, He once more reflected on where it had all went wrong.

In the last year and a half, community centre's, library's, weddings and all sorts of charity events and functions, not to mention the odd cameo on ESPN were how he earned his wage and spent his time.

'Is this what has become of a once great pro?' he wondered.

* * *

It was soon time to get on stage and earn his wage, Gateshead Cobra's were the latest amateur side to request his presence as there guest speaker.

'What is it this time?' His wife asked that morning.

'Who cares any more'

He was clearly missing the game, a void in his life he has never replaced.

'Gentleman, please stand for your management team and our very special guest...boasting three time title winner with Liverpool, one UEFA Cup, Bundasliga champion, two division one winners medals as a manager and a second division title. He has played for our glorious nation of England 66 times scoring 26 goals and who could forget his two Ballon d'Or'...It's Kevin Keegan'

A series of events

He stood looking out the large window of his hotel room. Hilton was always the hotel of choice, mainly for the superb breakfast. Watching as the rain and heavy wind ponded against the window, realising how much he hates the weather in Glasgow.

Checking his black Rolex, A birthday present from the wife. 7:23AM,time to move. Kevin turned Sky Sports News on as he prepared himself for breakfast and his annual visit to his soccer school in East Kilbride.

'Jim White here, We have some breaking news on the morning report. Portsmouth Owner Luigi Agnolin has confirmed the club have terminated the contract of Head Coach **** Voorn. The Italian confirmed the appointment of the former Feyenoord Assistant was rushed and has promised to bring in a big name to rescue there season'.

Stricken by financial woe, Portsmouth were taken over by an Italian consortium in late September, Sitting bottom of the table with 2 points in 10 games, the board sacked Israeli boss Avram Grant. Voorn was appointed just over a day later. However the club have struggled since his appointment and sit bottom of the table after 28 games with 18 points, 12 clear of safety.

Portsmouth are thought to have no chance of survival and it's unclear who would be attracted to the job, Here is a list of favourites for the job

Graeme Souness 4/1

Glenn Hoddle 7/2

Alan Curbishly 15/4

Terry Venebles 18/1

Mark Hughes 20/1

Kevin's mood picked up as the day went on. Everything at the soccer school was going well and was as busy as always.

The crazy frog song bursts out in the middle of a session,to which instantly embarrassed Kevin. How he wished he could figure out how to change that god forsaken song that his daughter installed for 'a laugh'

politely excusing himself he steps aside from the laughing youngsters and answers his phone.

The call was from Martin, his agent. To his surprise, Portsmouth have enquired about his availability and would like to set up a meeting with the possibility of Kevin Keegan becoming the club's third manager of the season, Until the end of the season.

* * *

Just a few short hours before this unexpected phone call, Kevin was listening to events unfold at Fratton Park and wondering who in there right mind would take that poison challis. Things were different now, He has potentially been offered a return to football management, a last hurrah ?

Chances of success looked next to impossible, perhaps he could do enough to boost spirits for next season, who ever may be in charge.

Never the less, he couldn't find a reason to say no, 12 hours later he was touching down at Bournemouth Airport and preparing to return to football management.

Fantastic stuff. You, Kris, are by far, the best story-writer.

good luck kris i thought you ment kingeric back for a second of ur thread name best of luck good start so far

An offer you can’t refuse?

Upon arrival at Bournemouth airport and awaiting check in, a call came over the tanoy ‘Can a Mr. Kevin Keegan, please report to the nearest help desk, that’s a Mr. Kevin Keegan to the nearest help desk’

‘What now’ he wondered, it appears that the Portsmouth hierarchy would prefer a bit more secrecy regarding there meeting, in case things didn’t work out. ‘Smart move’ he thought.

The last thing they would need is having the public know a new manager was not there number one target. Kevin then realised what he was thinking, was there someone else before me?

The meeting would now take place in the conference room of the Bournemouth Highcliff Marriott hotel. He had a little over an hour to freshen up for the meeting.

The meeting went better than expected, The Portsmouth board were very aware of there previous error in appointment and admitted it was a rash decision based on some bad advice. They also realise that there was very little hope of survival and wanted Mr. Keegan due to his ability to inspire and motivate. The board wanted the season to end on some sort of high.

It was seen as a no lose situation on his part, if he failed, would anyone blame him? The club thought by most as doomed anyway. He saw no reason to reject the position.

The contract was already written up, they were organised and he liked that. 4 months. 9 games. 12 points from safety.

A tidy wage of 15,000 per week was accompanied with housing fee’s and travel paid for him, He would be able to fly back to Newcastle when needed and would stay in a posh Select Apartment billed at £1200 a month.

Both parties now seemed very eager and excited as he signed the short term rolling contract.

At 9:00PM tonight at the Bournemouth Highcliff Marriott, Kevin Keegan would be announced to the public as Portsmouth FC new boss.
