Tomorrow night Bill Malone leads Galway United into their maiden European campaign, facing SK Brann in Norway. That the Tribesman are even in Europe is amazing in itself. Nineteen months ago Malone took over a club in turmoil. No players, no backroom staff, no money, no hope. Unanimously expected by experts to be relegated, somehow the amateurs from the west managed to clinch the league title, and consequently Champions League qualification.
Malone has already spun an incredible yarn, but could there be one more chapter to come? Galway head into tomorrow's game in good form, having won their last three matches without conceding a goal. However, they face a monumental challenge against the Norwegian champions, who will line up with several internationals in their ranks. United are nevertheless a team capable of causing upsets, and they will be hoping for big performances from key men Jhon Pírez and La'Vere Corbin-Ong. The game is live on Rté 2 at 7:45.
