Rhyl F.C. : Local Loser or Lasting Legacy?

A Casualty of War

It was around 11:30pm on the same day of our defeat to Bala in the Welsh Premier League Cup, when I got an interesting phone call from my assistant manager, Mark Powell. At this point, like any valuable member of society, I was drinking alone, licking the wounds caused by the days events...

MP: Alright boss, got something that might cheer you up.

TH: Make it quick Mark, Tesco closes at midnight and I'm all out of Smirnoff.

MP: Have you got your phone on you?

TH: Yes I do.

MP: Go onto the league's site.

TH: Alright, but I don't see why you can't just...

MP: Feeling any better?

TH: You know Mark, I think I might be.

MP: Have a good night, boss.

Now I very much dislike Neville Powell, but part of me was going to miss him. I thought I could form some sort of bitter rivalry with him to add some more spice to the Bangor matches, but oh well, I guess he just wasn't up to standard.

Now, onto a quick recap of a game I missed during the last update.

Not a great deal to say about this game, but Lillywhite newbie Yora Enzam bagged a brace and ultimately a much needed three points for us. We weren't great, but we were good enough.

Now onto our next game agianst Airbus where we would be without Brett Shakir after he managed to get his ribs fractured during our last match.

Now the phrase 'smash and grab' doesn't usually apply to teams that were able to score 3 goals, but this win fit that exact definition.

Jay Gibbs put us into the lead after 24 minutes, before Paul McManus popped up with another goal 10 minutes before half time to put us into a comfortable yet surprising lead considering the amount of pressure that we had been put under.

After a well received team talk about complacency, the lads went back out onto the pitch and put in a verry complacent performance which saw Airbus come right back into the game just 10 minutes after the break, and our inability to focus allowed them to equalize with 15 minutes to go. If anyone was going to win this one, it would be them...

Or so I thought, but their leveller provided us with the wake up call we desperately needed, and it didn't take long for Jay Gibbs to ****** the game from under their noses.

A good 3 points.

The start of December saw the monthly awards handed out, and for the first time in my spell at the club, one of our lot managed to bag the top award. Congratulations to 17 year old Yora Enzam. The kid could go far in this league. He was joined by Jay Gibbs in the WPL team of the month.

Finally, a bit of news on the managerial front, as Bangor appointed bookies' favourite Mark Aizlewood as their new boss. It'll be interesting to see if he is able to help them pick up some points, bearing in mind that the next derby between our two sides is only a fortnight away.

The next update will feature the two games leading up to the Bangor match, and some info on where our hero sees his future.
